Ba dum, tish!

I think there might be something wrong with the 'box on this 147... There's at least 6 inches of lateral play when in gear. Any gear.

In fairness, you live on a massive island, on the other side of the world. I'm not helping much, am I?

It got worse. Rather than teaching me how to use the strange waggly gearstick thingy and superfluous pedal, he kept telling me that I'd never guess who he'd had in the back of his taxi. Most distracting.

Wasn't much of a lesson, really. We started by pulling away in 3rd, then popped it IMMEDIATELY into 4th, and left it there for the rest of the drive. To be honest, I only went along for the promised free seat beadmat and dash-mounted business card holder.

Post up some pics when it's all done. -
I had to get munky to give me driving lessons. We started with why the hell the car has three frigging pedals.

Agree with the comments about VAG products. I had a "bog-standard" MkVI Golf TDi SE as a hire car in Italy a few years ago, and it was solid, but boring to drive. When it came to buying my own Golf, I went for the GT TDi DSG model, chipped up to 170bhp & 280lb/ft. With the GTi's chassis settings, and a properly punchy engine, fun can be had. Standard ones are a bit "beige", I do agree.

A cheeky little 2001 147 1.6 Twin Spark 3-door, in a fetching shade of light metallic blue. 95k miles, overall tidy condition, and you'll all be pleased to hear, fitted with a MANUAL gearbox. Here she is: The only downside is that I've only got her for a day or so, as a courtesy car from Autolusso whilst the Golf has its MoT and an air con re-gas. Rather predictably, the old girl is outclassed in every subjective area by the Golf, but it's still fun to drive, in a bouncy, light steering, old-school kind of a way! The lurching into corners is going to take a bit of getting used to after the utterly Germanic and flat-cornering Golf, but it's an experience I am enjoying.

Fellas, I'm happy to leave this thread open, but the references to members and mods on other forums needs to stop. Cheers. -
Could it have been a Q4? Did they make a Brera Q4?

Good advert. Serious question now... Is "premium" diesel, like Shell V-Power DERV and similar higher-priced products from rival companies any good? I was once forced to use Shell V-Power diesel (it was the only thing in stock, and my car was running on fumes) and I didn't notice any difference. As an aside, a few years ago, I had a Nissan Primera 2.0 eGT (P10), which ran beautifully on 97-99 RON fuel (i.e. premium unleaded), but did not like 95 RON (standard unleaded) at all, spluttering and misfiring all over the place.

What are you saying? Oh, right.

They do make some stunning cars, that's for sure. All a bit similar, but stunning nonetheless.

Automatic. When it's dark outside, they go on. When it's light outside, they go off. Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) became law in the UK on 7th February 2011. In anticipation of this change to the law, many manufacturers started fitted their vehicles with DRLs from 2009 onwards. In VW's case, they simply redesigned the lighting circuit to keep dipped beams on all the time.

Welcome aboard, Kam. PS: You'll get used to the humour around here!

Dunno what you're talking about.

My Golf has automatic lights. I leave the switch in the automatic position. I have no trouble sleeping at night. Coincidence? Maybe.

I've only just noticed this, but in the Miura picture, the guy standing by the front of the car looks like he's fiddling with himself!

Sphinx's RS 200 picture is begging for some captions... Guy in white shirt: "Boy, what the Sam Hill is that?!?!?" Guy in dark shirt: "I think it's yerpeeeeean, pop." Guy in white shirt: "Crazy commie yerpeeeeean bastards!"

It's quite normal to lust after classic Porsches, Tyas! In fairness to "the rest of you", only two porkers were mentioned. The rest are American... Don't get me started on American cars!!! EDIT: With the honourable exception of the Jaguar, I hasten to add.

G'day Timbo. Welcome aboard.
