jhc 28 Report post Posted December 6, 2011 I can't read the link, banned. As I said, I wasn't sure. It's still a retarded idea.
jhc 28 Report post Posted December 6, 2011 OK, read it on the tablet. It's definitely a retarded idea, for the price of the swap you could buy an e39.

Vard66 1 Report post Posted December 7, 2011 Hush Joe, you're being an arrogant, insulting cock. Also I don't like the E39.
jhc 28 Report post Posted December 7, 2011 Meh, when I see something idiotic, I call the perpetrators idiots. Its an expensive, pointless conversion. If you so desperately want an m62 5 series, buy one. It would probably be cheaper to put your gearbox into one than to put the engine into yours. Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2011 As it has been done before I don't think it is too out the way idea wise. But then again, looking at my car CV I'm not noted for sensible, rational ideas...
Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2011 On reflection (thanks Joe), we've decided that if we go down the engine enlargement route, we'll go 4.0...
jhc 28 Report post Posted December 16, 2011 I do drunkenly rant talk sense sometimes.
Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 We've also now decided to just cut the crap and go straight to the 4.0 conversion. And make the 3.0 into a coffee table or something. Mental? Probably. Fun? When done - definitely.
Symon 1 Report post Posted December 26, 2011 The 3.0 and 4.0 V8's both suffer from Nikasil issues. You are better off with a later 3.5 of 4.4 V8 IMO.
Vard66 1 Report post Posted January 1, 2012 Maybe. But then again, it's a LOT more work to convert it to M62 power. Also, any engines that were bound to suffer nikasil issues, pretty much have by now, so it's less of a concern than it otherwise might be.
jhc 28 Report post Posted January 2, 2012 Nikasil, lol.
Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2012 One lowish mileage 4.0 engine, ECU and the whole bloody lot to convert it has been bought. Let the fun begin...
jhc 28 Report post Posted January 9, 2012 I knew you'd crack. Good luck with it all, chris has my number if you get stuck and the offer of assistance still stands My advice is to do the belts, pulleys and gaskets while its out of the car.

Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2012 Engine paid for, and now on its way to Chez Vard. No going back now. "This shit just got real"... I must be mental.
Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 14, 2012 Alex, my friend! How the devil are you, sir? Good to see you on here, mate. If you have any time in between collecting Rovers and transplanting BMW V8s, join the rest of us nutcases for a bit of banter in the General Chit Chat section. I've always had a hankering for a bent-eight E34, so I can see your approach with this one. I've had a couple of straight-six E34s (a 24 valve 525 and a 12 valve 530), and an E38 740i (4.4 V8), but never had a V8 in an E34. Good luck with it, dude. As you say "shit just got real". Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2012 Morgan! Good to see you mate and thanks for the welcome! BM update. We are still waiting for the engine to be despatched. I'm starting to get a bit concerned (I'm not known for patience, tolerance or being able not to worry) but all being well it'll be with us soon, so we can get started on this... Alex SBY 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2012 I can't wait to start the swap. At this stage though I'm just a bit concerned that we've not got an engine that I've paid a not insignificant sum for, and I'm (even more) financially down on this 'king car... Oh well. P.M.A and all that.
