, Joe, I think we're dodging the Gloucester diff, there's a man in Calne, fewer than 5 miles from me with a whole 5er rear beam, he's gonna double check it's still there and ring me tomorrow, at which point I'll make a cheeky offer on the diff.

What time on Monday are you hoping to be here, and are you crashing here?

Fair play, saves me some hassle :thumbs:

Not entirely sure on times, early to mid evening ish most likely, and yes i'll be crashing at yours... I promise not to break anything and put on my 'dealing with parents' face. I'm cleared to stay out to play until weds evening if needs be. That gives us two full days work which tbh should be enough to have it in and running.

Not on a stock exhaust... They sound lame.

Smash out the cats and remove the back box and it will roar.

I don't want to bin the cats. Mainly so that MOTs are not a pain.

As for increased amplification of exhaust noise... This WILL be done, but let's get the engine in and running to start with... :)

To be honest, no. Apparently the 4.0 has come with manifolds (and I think, downpipes). If it doesn't work out it then forces the issue to sort the exhaust earlier. It's on the list, so if it has to get done now then fair dos.

Worse case for now, we'll side exit it. Using acros.

:LOL: sound like a plan. It should be fine though, especially if you already have manifolds. They tend to be the problem.

Mate, that would absolutely ROCK. :rock:

I'm thinking something like this...

Update!

First day is over, and we're pretty much ready to pull the engine out. Left to do before we can are the following;

Remove gearbox bolts (already loosened)

Remove PAS pump and figure out how we can hold it out of the way so as not to kill it and drain the SLS.

Remove Alternator and pop it onto the new lump.

God save us. :-\

Left to right; my mate Ian, a fellow petrolhead, and Alex - unaware of how he looks wearing my tea-cosy beanie.

This is what we discovered upon unearthing the DME (ECU) - it appears to already be a 4.0 automatic box... Curious, but possibly a contributor to the abysmal fuel economy, and constant smell of unburnt fuel....

Plus some completely redundant wires - this is 90% of the contents of the O/S bank's wiring box. Mildly unsettling, this. We reckoned it was all the wiring that would've gone to the plug on the slushbox.

This photo was taken at about five to nine, the frost had been on the cars for a good two and a bit hours at this point;

This afternoon I am not feeling terrific. This may or may not have been caused by Rum. Work will be slow today.

It did occur to me as we signed off msn at 6am that perhaps today wouldnt be the most productive for you. :facepalm:

Today - not very productive, as predicted.

Still hungover at this point in time if I'm honest - to the point where I feel like I still want to throw up. :-P

Progress today was slow to get going, and then short lived.

We've hit a snag, because we didn't think it through properly, and have now encountered the fact that leaving the gearbox on the car has resulted in the manifolds catching on the bell housing, preventing the lump from being lifted out.

Tomorrow we will remove the box and extricate it, and hopefully, proceed as though nothing went wrong. :-P

Looking rather disheartened and demotivated;

Then Ian showed up...

... and managed to get us enthused again for half an hour
