Meh, when I see something idiotic, I call the perpetrators idiots.

 

Its an expensive, pointless conversion. If you so desperately want an m62 5 series, buy one. It would probably be cheaper to put your gearbox into one than to put the engine into yours.

We've also now decided to just cut the crap and go straight to the 4.0 conversion. And make the 3.0 into a coffee table or something.

 

Mental? Probably. Fun? When done - definitely.

Maybe. But then again, it's a LOT more work to convert it to M62 power.

 

Also, any engines that were bound to suffer nikasil issues, pretty much have by now, so it's less of a concern than it otherwise might be.

My advice is to do the belts, pulleys and gaskets while its out of the car.

I've always had a hankering for a bent-eight E34, so I can see your approach with this one. ;) I've had a couple of straight-six E34s (a 24 valve 525 and a 12 valve 530), and an E38 740i (4.4 V8), but never had a V8 in an E34. Good luck with it, dude. :cool:

im liking this thread, my mate had a 5 series that shape with a 4.4 V8 in it!

 

pushes just shy of 500hp thanks to a supecharger :)

 

its auto which made the conversion easier

 

the old 4.0 v8 is now his coffee table :)

 

Will get some pics next time im there as its now a 2 door saloon aswell

BM update. We are still waiting for the engine to be despatched. I'm starting to get a bit concerned (I'm not known for patience, tolerance or being able not to worry) but all being well it'll be with us soon, so we can get started on this...

I can't wait to start the swap. At this stage though I'm just a bit concerned that we've not got an engine that I've paid a not insignificant sum for, and I'm (even more) financially down on this 'king car...

 

Oh well. P.M.A and all that.
