HUD's

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd share this with those interested in gadgets...

Got myself a HUD which is a Heads Up Display(for those not in the know) plug in unit that displays your vehicle speed onto your windscreen...

Personally speaking It's the best piece of kit I've ever bought.:thumbs:

Bang on the money regarding the actual speed you are doing, and I've tested it against

numerous speed display cameras and it's come up trumps everytime .

Comes into it's own when going through them average speed cameras at roadworks on the motorway etc, no more checking the speedo every 2 mins

It can display revs, fuel consumption and other bits and bobs if needed, but I

can't be arseholed with all that stuff..

Only downsides are... Club foot box and cable on the dash and it flashes 159

onto the windscreen for 5 secs when the ignition is switched off. :grump:

Certainly a licence saver though and the graphics look trick especially

at night

See, that would annoy me...

Windscreen wipers annoy me, and I can't help them... Anything in my line of sight... Just gets in the way.

Even our Gert loves it and she's blind as a bat

Got it set to the bottom right of the windscreen so it don't interfere with

vision but you can see it out the corner of your eye without looking at

the speedo/taking your eyes off the road.

Going to the dance at the weekend so if you want a look feel free

I have a hud app on the Iphone and it's useless because of the laminated window, I just get the info 3 times in a big blur.

I've made myself one of these.

A good suction mount, a voice control app, a gps speedo app and an android phone.

Turn the phone so it sits at the right angle under the screen and bobs yer uncle.

Its not very good in the daylight. But at night its great. Only problem is the same as most of these, the laminated screen gives a very slight double reflection. Not very good for reading texts but with the music player, speedo, movies, sat nav etc it works a treat.

The only real issue I've found is on cold nights, its positioned right over the screen vent and after an hour or two the battery gets too hot to keep charging so I have to unplug the power cable. :$

(the gps app is called 'dynomaster' and laughably claims to be able to give accurate dyno readouts... it doesnt, but the 0-60 and 0-100 bit is quite cool.)
