smiffy 99 Report post Posted October 13, 2011 mate the gta is just the same, think they have the same steering rack or something so smaller tyres will have no effect. waits for smaky to bitch slap me and tell us the right answer
LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted October 13, 2011 Ive got used to looking like a useless twat in car parks/tight roads/mini roundabouts etc now the bloke in the Ace Cafe car park looks at you like you're special because you can't park where he's pointing at but i think its to do with the brakes being bigger so need bigger wheels to fit over them so they cut the turning circle 'down' so the wheels dont hit the car (im probly wrong but im sure i read/heard that somewhere:))
Jamz3k 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 The turning circle on my 147 twinny is pretty grim also.

ChrisO 2 Report post Posted October 16, 2011 Is this down to the geometry of the front suspension ? If it is then the size of the wheels will make little difference

Smaky 73 Report post Posted October 19, 2011 I'd go into toe, camber, caster, wheelbase, steering angle, rake, tyre flex and all sorts but for the purpose of this thread it's too deep
Anjenha 44 Report post Posted October 19, 2011 I always thought the spider had a demented camber on the wheels, especially the rear. They appear to toe in. When we first really noticed we also found the bushes had done their fab trick of eating the sub frame... Had the frame welded and polybushed the car, but the camber was still slightly there. Have noticed the new Spider is the same, although her bushes (original rubber type) are in great condition

James Junior 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2011 Ha ha I remember many a red faced car parking incident or seven point turn in my old GT. It had a turning circle like a bloody boat!

Sphinx 7 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 My 147 only needs about 4 lane widths to turn
Anjenha 44 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 My 147 only needs about 4 lane widths to turn Even the spider isn't that bad, Sphinx, come on
LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 This volvo estate can pretty much turn around in its own length (if that makes sense)
Alfa156Melb 9 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 mate the gta is just the same, think they have the same steering rack or something so smaller tyres will have no effect. waits for smaky to bitch slap me and tell us the right answer Why? The turning circle on Alfas is always poor, fact. Is there a technical reason for this? Or is this just another mental Alfa thing?
Smaky 73 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 Front tracking, pressures and load can affect it but the turning circle is larger than most due to the design, tyre size has little to do with it as they still turn at the same rate. Alfa156Melb 9 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 Ok, if it's due to design.. why didn't they design a better turning circle into the car? It's it a limitation of something else?
Smaky 73 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 If your driving is so bad that you need a turning circle smaller than this then you should buy a car with a cup holder...
Alfa156Melb 9 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 How can you say such things?? Sacre Bleu! I'm quite happy with the lacklustre turning circle and the sI am a bigots from onlookers.. they may be able to manoeuvre their cars, but they still have to drive them.. poor buggers... Nope - I'm just interested in the technical reason behind it.. thats all.
