Mito Brake Pads & Discs

Recommended Posts

Seeing as i need these changing on my MiTo QV i was wondering if anyone has any reccomendations of good brake pads and discs? i have had a look on a few websites for pagid, mintex, tarox and a few others but tbh i don't really know what im looking at  some mention heavy brake dust etc and noise (im not too fussed about squeaky brakes, i don't find it annoying like some people do) but with the pads that say they create a lot of brake dust id like to avoid that as i like my Qv alloys :). looking into it the discs dont make that much of a difference? what are the benefits of solid discs, grooved and/ or drilled? if it just adds a load of money onto it then there is no point in me paing for a load of performance that i will never really use. what i am looking for is-

not over the top in perfomance (or price)

as good as or better than the standard set up (theres nothing wrong with the standard set up, i just thought why not upgrade seeing as im having to buy new anyway? :D)

something that is not going to create loads of brake dust and ruin the wheels :)

is there such a thing or am i looking into it too much and wanting something that doesn't exist? im getting some recommendations from the specialist im using to do the driveshaft as its all coming off to do that anyway so easier to get it all done at the same time

looking at getting braided hoses and better brake fluid too

You can't go wrong with Brembo's but you'll pay the price for them !

Braided hoses will improve the feel and stop you on a sixpence if you drive like a boy racer

Changed mine last year to dimpled and grooved discs which was about 160 quid inc Mintex pads for all 4 corners.

The original Bosch pads were a nightmare for dust but the Mintex are fine tbh and stop excellently

Must get around to adding braided hoses myself sometime :lol1:

They are the same fitment as the mitsibushi evo (forgotten which 1 now, think it was either the evo 3 or 8??) because its a brembo caliper it makes it easier to find pads which is handy :) was that £160 for everything? i mean discs & pads for the front and rear then?

looking at it, i think pagid and mintex are the same company anyway. both are part of the 'TMD friction group'

IIRC, braided hoses give you more stopping power/feel because they don't expand when pressure is applied, unlike conventional hoses (although the expansion is minimal). Grooves and cross drilling are all about consistency of performance. Although in theory they would present less surface area for the pad to grip on, the edges of the grooves/holes increase friction, but far more importantly, allow heat to escape from the disc, thereby delaying brake fade when worked hard.

I'm sure Smaky will be along in a minute to set me straight!

Green Stuff pads are popular on the VW scene, and I haven't seen many wheels covered in green brake dust, so might be worth checking out.

im thinking of possibly doing a trackday with it so brake fade is something i'd like to avoid (happened in my GTA at Spa and as i was lined up perfectly with someone else's tyre skid marks which disappeared into/under a tyre wall i nearly had my own skid marks :o:LOL: then i let them cool down and they were fine afterwards) Thinking about it i don't think i have ever had a car long enough to have to change the pads or discs so if i do the fronts do i have to do the backs too?

if i went for drilled/grooved on the front and left the back alone it would bug me that they didn't look the same :$ theres no point just doing it for looks so if it meant throwing the rears away and replacing them i wouldn't do it

i did have a look at the ebc red, green, yellow etc stuff pads and the green did get a good review so might see how much they are aswell. cheers

Yep...

I was going for the Black Diamond discs originally but they were the best part of 500 quid for the full set plus pads,

I ended up with some that are dimpled/grooved and come black coated .

Once fitted and used the black coating is rubbed away apart from the dimps and grooves so they're always prominent

Only downside is surface rust gathers even if there's a hint from the weathergirl on BBC that rain's on it's way :nonono:

Drilled discs and high friction pads would be the best option for heat dispersion/brake fade on a track day I'd reckon

Where you doing the trackday btw ?

 does the hub part go rusty aswell? I know the pagid discs are coated but i dont care about surface rust on them either :)

Not sure on where to do the trackday. Done brands hatch before & that was good fun. Bedford looks good too but id love to do silverstone :)

Bedford is an awesome track mate, go there. Silverstone will be mega expensive, mainly because its Silverstone

I've heard bedford is supposed to be good. not got a good track record there though, 1st time i went to go there my GTA decided to get rid of its original diff and the 2nd time it decided it was time to dump all its washer fluid over the forecourt of a petrol station  3rd time lucky maybe?

nearly gotto do silverstone on the cheap with joss, paid fo it and went to sign n and they turned round and said we needed our paper counterparts for our driving license :wtf::nonono: nobody carries that round with them so we couldnt do it :grr:
