Dave 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2012 OK waiting for my new toy to arrive on Wednesday (156 JTS 02’Plate). Looking to get set up with some diagnostics software and cables. As far as I can work out the cables I need are like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-FIAT-DIA ... 1008492187 Then the software there seem to be two choices FiatECUscan and AlfaDiag. Any advice as to which would be my best bet for my model or for any other reasons welcome. Are there alternatives ? How useable is the free version of FiatECUscan (guessing its view only)? Thanks in advance for your help. Dave
Smaky 73 Report post Posted March 12, 2012 Though the cables will work that is NOT an authorised sale of the software and is not supported with updates. Only get Fiatecuscan from the website.
ChrisO 2 Report post Posted March 12, 2012 I use both - but if starting from scratch I would use a purchased copy of FiatECUScan, the freeby version would probably cover most of your needs but the guy that put it together has made a great effort to make it work well and deserves to be paid for his efforts. Dave 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks guys sounds like FiatECUscan gets the nod. I will of course purchase a copy its only fair to pay for the mans time as he has done a good job.

Yani has put in far more effort than Derek ever will, it's sad but I think Dereks software - Alfadiag - is like a savaged rabbit now compared to the March Hare on heat which is Fiatecuscan. K9d 108 Report post Posted May 6, 2013 I have a spare netbook and will soon have a drive with parking for 4 cars , so I plan to buy a lead and fiatecuscan, the link at the top of this thread doesn't work. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the lead and software. Got my eye on this, may go and have a look as its just down the road from me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171033066590?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
twisted_pr 16 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 FES has become MES (MultiECUScan) - http://www.multiecuscan.net/ This page talks about the cables: http://www.multiecuscan.net/HowToUse.aspx I started off with a standard blue KL/VAGCOM ODB2 to USB lead, but this didn't always pick up all the desired ECUs (eg you can choose from engine, body, selespeed etc). So I went the whole hog and bought an ELM 327 pack with different coloured patch leads and it works no problem - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-FIAT-DIAGNOSTIC-LEAD-MULTIECUSCAN-FIATECUSCAN-ELM-327-v1-4-ODB2-ECU-ENGINE-/251269336354?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3a80d1cd22. Just bought an ELM bluetooth interface http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Torque-OBD2-OBDII-Diagnostic-Scanner-CAR-CODE-READER-for-ELM327-V1-5-/130884616668?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item1e7954c1dc, which arrived today so will give that a whirl. Less restricted movement on laptop, plus can connect to iPhone to watch the revs etc but not very useful
K9d 108 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Cheers, I will get that sorted soon I have one of those bluetooth interfaces, it works well on the wifes Megane 03 plate, but not so on my 156 51 plate, connecting it to your phone is fun and can be useful. twisted_pr 16 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 It could be that you need those coloured patch leads to make the bluetooth work properly on the 156 (something to do with pin switching), as I doubt it is auto switching. Assuming I can get it working, can anyone recommend any particular iPhone apps? Shame MES isn't on the iPhone or Android, but understand what a colossal PITA that would be. K9d 108 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 I use Torque on my Android phone and believe the equivalent app is called Revs on the iPhone, it will read error codes and possible reset them plus give loads of info if ti talks to the car properly. I think my 156 issue is more to do with the age of the car and a non standard OBD language than cabling, for my speed I'm either stationary or doing 256mph , makes for a good 0-60 time
twisted_pr 16 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 0-60 in 0.2 sec If the ELM 327 doesn't work properly it's a problem to do with Fiat/Lancia/Alfa needing a slightly different interface, or something tweaking http://forum.multiecuscan.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1493 If you can't read certain ECUs on a car using an ELM interface (eg Engine yes, ABS no) then it's because pins need swapping around. http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx Some KL/VAGCOM cables are auto switching (ie is supposed to be able to read all ECUs), whereas the ELM 327 needs different adaptor leads in order to physically move the connections (hence the green, red and yellow adaptor leads, each giving a different pin configuration). K9d 108 Report post Posted May 8, 2013 When I get the cables I will give it another go.
