Ignition barrel fun and games

Recommended Posts

Having had a replacement key cut for my old Gtv TS and refitting the ignition barrel in the column (they do only go in one way dont they?) Put a fully charged battery on the car and it started up no problems. Trouble is, the key was in the off position! Even taking the key out made no difference, engine still runs.

It seems the ignition is constantly latched on no matter where the key is in the barrel, or not in the barrel as the case seems!

So then, ignition and key experts, any ideas as to where i have gone wrong or whats up in the ignition side of things?

I have questioned that, my answer was that i thought it only went on one way

I'll have a poke around tomorrow

TS actually

The clue was in the OP's first post.

Take out the ignition switch and ensure the 2 pegs on the barrel are lined up correctly with the slots on the barrel as you fit it back in, I bet you you turn it to PARK, then the engine would stop atm.
