  1. In truth I had a 2.0 sportwagon from a dealer a few years back but had so much hastle with it and the dealer I returned it it was quite lively though. I just have this thing for the busso it just gives you all you need in the 3.0 not had the pleasure of driving the GTA yet but can imagine that it is quite a beast. the 3.0 has much better torque than the 2.5 but on paper the 2.5 is quicker than my 3.0 0-60 but the 60 - 100 is brill in the 3.0.
  2. I wouldnt know mine obviously didnt want me to find out. I think my 164 sabotaged it in the night when I was'nt looking
  3. must admit if I could find one at a sensible price I would consider a 2.4 in my 147 that would give it a little something extra to the unsuspecting. I think it would really benefit from the torque. It would certainly be quicker and a lot more economic.
  4. :if you could ever make a mess of combining egineering that was the definition :Black Eye:
  5. thats the only thing how do you tell a good one from a bad one I thought the one I had got was OK :Money Eyes:
  6. yes stilll looking for a solution really want to hang on to the 164. I will still come on and annoy everyone though whatever
  7. cool. youve probably caught you toe on the brake pedal when the car went over. hope you enjoy a bit of a rest . You never know there might be a silver linning in the end .
  8. By the way how you doing ? you still feeling saw and stiff? Hope its not too bad always takes you by surprise once the adrealin has worn off.
  9. I think so . I just wish they would be honeset Ohh sorry its the government silly me :Black Eye: Never ceases to amaze me how everyone has to be so squeaky clean to govern but the minute they get in they become the most untrust worthy 2 faced things you would ever have the displeasure of meeting. Unbeliveable :Talking Ear Off:
  10. hmmmm thats a fair bit more than I had thought . thanks for the advice though really useful. cheers
  11. I have put them both on the" other site " to be honest if I was going to keep one it would be the 164. but due to the money situation first to go will have to do. its made me really mad had the 164 since 2002 been the most reliable car I've ever had. should have gone without a car and spent the money on the 164 but was having difficulty finding some of the parts been looking for months before I bought the 147. Still have to wait and see.
  12. So after the engine I just replaced in the 147 blowing a lump out of itself after only 70miles for a yet unknown reason and having chosen to use that as a run around car whilst trying to find parts to do up the 164, I have now arrived at the point where I have spent every penny I had and a few more I don't. I ve come to the sad conclusion that its time to let them both go. with winter comming and no garage think its time to cash the new tax in before the end of the month and scrap both the cars to regain some poorly invested cash . After some long thought and much sadness and several different sums and calculations I cannot reconcile the cost of running a car. I live in a place where you cant park anywhere without paying except home. The council has decided to introduce a 20mph limit just about everywhere and going anywhere cost so much in fuel I have been reduced to going shopping and the occasional trip to school to pick up or drop off the kids. I worked out that the cost of running a car just tax, mot, insurance actually costs more than it would cost me each year to do the journeys I make and thats without the fuel. So after much time and effort have come to the enevitable conclusion its just not worth it anymore. Been an Alfa owner for nearly thirty years now and to arrive here after the blood, sweat and tears is a little sad but for me I think the government and lack of money has finally priced me off the road. Very sad day for me but have been fighting this for the last couple of years and have to finally admit defeat. The engine blowing up in the 147 I replaced 3 weeks ago is the unfortunate straw has broken this camels back. VIVA ALFA ROMEO.
  13. Might be worth me asking about my crank but think the postage maybe a bit too much.
  14. Anyone got any idea what sort of price I should be looking at to re grind a crank on a 2.0 any advice as to do's &dont's would be really useful Cheers .
  15. Hi mate glad to see your ok. That's a right mess. Have you not been driving it at all . I ve been sat here wallowing in self pity all afternoon thinking I'd had a bad day but that is not good. What had you had done to the car while it was in the garage I don't think I saw that bit of the post. It must be the day for wrecking Alfas have to make a note of the date and stay home next year
  16. It might make an interesting coffee table
  17. no mines the 3.0 24v loads of torque thats the only reason I've kept it for ten years :Big Grin: lovely engine Looks like it'll be back on the road sooner than I though as my 147 blew up todaY IN A BIG CLOUD OF SMOKE :Black Eye: . Smacky seems to think I have put the oil pump strainer gasket on the wrong way round when I refitted it and its been sucking in air not oil. Think its thrown a con rod .It was very impressive. Really annoying as I really took my time when I changed the engine took me days in the car park. I'only done about 60/70 miles and today I thought I would take it for a proper run as its not been over 40mph since I changed the engine. first time over 4000rpm and BANG. I'd fitted new belts w/pump tensioners the lot .
  18. i think the internal dimension for the 2.5 is 76mm if that helps i'm sure thats what is is on the 156 v6 is your air box below the resonator. Is it a square cylinder type like the 156?
  19. the resinator is the bit that helps reduce the intake noise and slightly restrics the flow. As Smacky said its the intake pipe up under the inner wing that would be the one to change .
  20. My 24v 164 runs fine on 95 but does feel a bit more free when I have used 99 V power. 147 not sure it makes any difference. Certainly not as noticeable as the busso.
  21. Interesting point about Cal you could well be right as Bradley is no slouch. I hope Ducati get the bike sorted. After the problems they had during the Rossi years there .I think it had a diverse affect on him and think its taken till now for him to gain confidence back to push the bike.
  22. Yeah sounds like you'd be better off changing it really see if Smacky can mail you one if he's got one. They just seem to get brittle with age. I would still think about painting it just easier to clean . The alloy gets grotty pretty quick and never really looks that good . I've been racking my brain to think if there is something you could use to fix it but due to the heat there I can't think of anything at all. You might be able to solder it but not sure if it would last to be honest.
  23. I hope so Honda and Yamaha could do with some real competion. Ducati are getting closer but close enough. If aprillia do join next year I'm surprised with there strength in SBK that Cal went to Ducati .
  24. Think they are made from a sort of thick ally foil similar to thick tin foil. Where is it broken. Mine has gone round the fitting holes . So for now I've put some thin sheet metal cut pieces at the back with a hole drilled in them to fit then large over sized washers a bit bigger than a 50p and used this to clamp the shield in between stopped it rattling and from the front looks quite tidy. If its not too bad you could repair it then use some very high temp (V.H.T.) paint to tidy it up . It's always easier to clean a painted surface even if you replace this might be a good option .
  25. Yeah Sykes did his best . Those aprillia's are really looking good. About time they joined the GP paddock .
