  1. Smaky, I'm replacing my rear rotors and pads tomorrow and was wondering: Can I take the lid of the fluid res to allow the fluid to creep up when i wind the piston back, or would you advise i release the calliper nipple and re-bleed instead? I've heard that there is a risk of damaging valves if you push the fluid backwards.. is that true?
  2. Oh yeah, they were hot.. couldn't act though...
  3. Well, I finally got around to running this procedure, this time though, I ignored the 'completed' message and followed the instructions as specified.. No more clutch judder, no more kangaroo jumping, faster gear changes and much more assertive changes too.. Very happy..
  4. I do yes.. I don't trust bouncer though. And please.. PLEASE never bring up that show again. It's Australian TV's equivalent to the Lada car. That, and Home & Away.
  5. Sydney?? Awful place.. have you discovered latte's yet? So yours gets bouncy when its hot? mines like that only when its cold.. being in Melbourne, its always bloody cold... and windy.. and raining.. and generally lousy.. much like England really... :Big Grin: Welcome aboard!!!! nice to see more Aussies coming over.. even if they are from Sydney Nice to hear a 156 with no apparent issues, but rest assured, if anything does go bang, we have a thing called Smaky on this site.. he's a gift sent from the Alfa God.. with him on your side, you will never experience the horrors many speak of.
  6. Mine reads low too.. but its just the reader.. MES reports 88ish. a friend of mine has a 156 2.0 TS which runs at about 70... confirmed with MES. Some alfa guy in Adelaide has convinced him that 70-80 degrees is fine for the 156.. I'm not so sure about that, given the stat opens at 88.. meh.
  7. We have one of sorts.. he's called Smaky.. I don't know of a manual though, there used to be a website that was very good, but it's closed down now.. You could buy a manual from Ebay, or if you don't mind waiting a few days I'll put a copy in dropbox for you. Just right now I'm away from home till next week. However it covers the whole car.. and its rubbish. Out of interest - here's what the MES page should look like, where you select Gearbox. Select you make and model, then gearbox... the press connect.
  8. You're having a few issues here, maybe it would be prudent to take the car to an independent Alfa Specialist?
  9. Assuminig you are in the gearbox section of MES.. there are LOTS Of parameters.. have you scrolled down?
  10. Wait.. don't worry!! my wires are crossed you were talking the OP..
  11. How do you mean Smaky? I selected the the gearbox in MES..
  12. You need to click on the parameters tab, in there is the settings. See screenshot below:
  13. fair enough. I just got my goodies from EBspares.. only 4 working days for shipping. very impressive.
  14. Under the perimeters tab, look for "Clutch Engage Position (Self Adjusted)".. As the tech expert Smaky here will tell you, it MUST be as 28 - 28.5mm but as close to 28 as you can get,. I don't know why your display is showing incorrect gear numbers but the clutch jumping is probably due to that measurement. Certainly if a non alfa mechanic changed the clutch, that clutch position would be way out.
  15. A few weeks? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ok. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Ok so it's the same part. I was surprised because the ore cats are so expensive, yet the main cat is cheap as chips.. Anyway, thanks Smaky. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Smaky, are you able to confirm that we're on the right track here? We are confused as to the location of the main cat.. if i'm right (see above comments) why is it so cheap? otherwise if I'm wrong, can you point greg in the right direction please? Cheers..
  19. Yeah, but disconnect (then reconnect) the battery again just before you do that procedure.
  20. Long shot, but had you recently disconnected the battery? You may need to reset the climate control...
  21. now, where did I put that pocket protector?
  22. Actually it's probably fine, if the stat was stuck open MES would report much lower temps... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Well, it seems slightly low.. maybe its within limits.. remember that the thermostat should open at 88 degrees.. so it should be hovering around there...
  24. As far as I can tell, having looked at ePer the part number you want is: 60694711 List price is: £473 ex vat.... EB Spares lists the same part for £94 ex vat.. :He He: http://www.ebspares.co.uk/alfa_156/JTS_front_silencer_OE_number_60694711/info.cfm That said, ePer upsets me, and confuses the hell out of me. I always walk away from it feeling less of a man. ePer diag referenced (#15 is what you want): Part details:
