Sorry I agree its stupid, it would be a lot more cost effective to do it your way. I guess they dont want to pollute the brand image, confuse customers etc. A strong single image will sell more cars. Essentially, the buying public are too dumb to make their own minds up from two cars Plus a lot of people wouldn't know fiat owns both brands.

Because each brand is its own company, with its own profit margins. They may be owned by the same people, but they are separate companies. You dont see coca cola trying to flog oasis in their ads do you...

The bulb indicator issue is a common one. Mine said I had bulbs out all the time. Its a simple fix, something like a fuse or the like but I can't remember what. I would worry about the whine the most, it could be a tensioner. Iirc the cam belt interval is just over 30k. It is on the v6's anyway. I know through experience that its something not to ignore! As LJ says, smaky is local to you and knows his stuff, if you ask really nicely he might be able to come have a gander.
