alfizta 6 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 I have the camlocks. Can I check the timing with them?
smiffy 99 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 No I don't think you can, (but maybe wrong) normally there are marks on the sprockets but Smaky will confirm.
alfizta 6 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 thought that if the camlocks can fit the cams then the timing is right...
Gibot123 16 Report post Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) You need to make sure that the crank shaft is at TDC on the mark and use a TDC gauge on piston No. 1 and the cam locks then fit and all of these are still correct then it should be timmed correctly. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13965640037948&key=62e3e4cb59bd65a7ef7794909cc9b782&libId=4cd5468c-ac92-4042-ba6e-ea0e0633fcbd&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alfaowner.com%2FForum%2Falfa-147-156-and-gt%2F596313-good-pdf-for-cambelt-change-on-ts-16v-engine.html&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alfatecnico.co.uk%2Fcar%2520mechanics.pdf&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alfaowner.com%2FForum%2Falfa-147-156-and-gt%2Findex2.html&title=Good%20PDF%20for%20cambelt%20change%20on%20TS%2016v%20engine%20-%20Alfa%20Romeo%20Forum&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alfatecnico.co.uk%2Fcar%2520mechanics.pdf Edited April 3, 2014 by Gibot123

Gibot123 16 Report post Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) Could be any number of things driving style sticking brakes injectors air filter etc....Does your car have a MAF and when was it changed? inlet air leak? Edited April 17, 2014 by Gibot123
Smaky 73 Report post Posted April 17, 2014 I'm going to pretend you didn't ask that.
alfizta 6 Report post Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) Gibot she uses very little fuel on long journeys, but I think it could be better on short trips. 2 years tracking for minor faults... I think I still I have a minor air leak, but don't know where... I hear a whistle around 4000 rpm. some days ago I was messing the air filter box, because the hose after was a bit loose. now it is alright. then reset the fault codes, gone for a drive, then p0170 lambda integrator high signal poped, meaning too much oxygen on lambda, but now appearing at 4000 rpm. rubber intake sleeve is new. MAF is old, but not sure it is the one. major service, belts done, spark plugs, "everything" new, 20000 km ago. Sometimes engine does not start (only noticed with warm engine). don't even hear spark ignition, but starter motor turns. starts at 2nd or 3rd try. think she could pull better too... anyway, 3rd and 4th gear reach their maximum speed, I think. p0130 and p1172 (TRA additive param too low), too, meaning injectors are being cut off too soon for some reason... p1172 fixed. new MAF, but also fixed some vacuum leaks. Smaky 73 Report post Posted April 17, 2014 All sounds like a crank sensor dieing very slowly
alfizta 6 Report post Posted April 17, 2014 nice. I'll let it die until it's dead for sure.
Gibot123 16 Report post Posted April 18, 2014 you're not saving anything by not changing it if as Smaky says it's on its way out you'll end up stuck if it won't start . these are not that expensive and not terrible to change.
alfizta 6 Report post Posted April 18, 2014 my 146 will be there for me when that day comes
alfizta 6 Report post Posted July 8, 2014 another question... what engines types do not need these tools?
leongsoon 8 Report post Posted July 9, 2014 my 146 will be there for me when that day comes The problem is, it might be fine on your way out, but leave you stranded when you wanna head home. It can also die halfway. Found out the hard way recently :Big Grin:
alfizta 6 Report post Posted July 9, 2014 recently got my 156 to the garage for a scheduled service and, at the same time, a flat battery on my 146 that's bad luck, I guess...
