Kev Bassett 1 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 November I am debt free. By Feb 2013 I could of saved around £4k and I was talking to the misses earlier about getting a car on my birthday. Now I know it's a long way off but I wanted to look at my options. here is my tick list. Max £4k budget, Diesel, 6 speed preferred, estate or hatchback, higher the BHP the better, cheap tax, and preferred manufacturers 'sportier' models. So far I looked at 156 1.9 JTD 140, Fiat Punto 1.9 JTD Sporting, Fiat Punto 1.3 JTD Fiat Bravo 1.9 JTD Sport. Any ideas so I can look at test drives etc for the future. Morgan 46 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 A MkV VW Golf GT TDi 170 DSG is what you want, Kev. By the time February 2013 rolls around, £4k will bag you one of these bad boys.

MrsAlfa 58 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 Personally I can't see how anyone who likes driving Italian cars can enjoy driving German ones? My Dad had quite a few VWs and Audis and we've had Alfas since 1984 ....

Morgan 46 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 Never thought about the Germans.... Hmm sounds lovely, DSG gearbox, me mums got one of those on her 1.6, talk about sublime... The DSG gearbox is bloody marvellous. When mated to the torquey 2.0 TDi engine, its accelerative capabilities really are something else. Fuel economy's excellent, too. Not only do I have a car that pisses over most things in a straight line (and around corners, come to that), I can get 65mpg out of the flippin' thing. Even when I'm "pressing on" , I get mpg in the fifties.

Kev Bassett 1 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 For me it's not just about enjoyable driving anymore, we all need to cherish the £££ in our pockets, I not to worried about depreciation as such but rather have cheaper running costs (fuel/service/parts) and still have umph when I want and need it. So this is why I look at Diesel, and since Morgan showed me that Golf I have been looking at VAG products including Skoda Octavia & Seat Leon TDi's. That's another thing I want easier plug and play style mods so it has to be diesel.
Anjenha 44 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 The Leon is a great little car, Kev Easy modding too, as that what you like, and they really can go like stink
