I'll try to keep this short!

Recommended Posts

As many of you will know I had the head skimmed on my GTV, and the ahem specialist outfit totall mucked it up. Anyway after much gnashing of teeth and threatening trading standards etc the put it right.

It only ran a few days, and needed an Mot which it failed. So we took it off the road over winter and have just had it Mot again - :yay:

But here's the bitch. We checked the oil and it was between min and max day before yesterday - all good. It's ran maybe 100 miles since. Mr is out in it tonight and called to say the engine light had come on and it had next to no oil in it, so he has topped it up. Has been driving fine but has been racing at times (ie if you are sitting at traffic lights sometimes will sit between one and a half and just above two.

We put some CAT cleaner in, yesterday. It also cut out yesterday after driving 40ish miles and having it's MOT done- drove off and stopped to get money, and it didn't want to start again. Havent noticed any oil burning or sus smoke? Isn't a clean start - maybe the alternator or starter motor?

Any ideas/suggestions :$

In the old days, when men cut down trees with axes and ecu's had never been heard of, over revving at idle usually meant inlet pipe splits/leaks. These days, could be anything...

Sorry, not much help but just trying to keep thread alive.

Oil, well. If no leaks then rings worn? Rate of depreciation depends on wear and might not be noticeable in daylight. If you welly it at night with another car behind you, can you see smoke in the headlights?

Cut out, crank sensor?

Sure I'll be shot down in flames but hey old school me.

Good luck

Thanks Deemac

No smoke - and crank sensor has been replaced.

Crank. Well there's an issue with O ring for crank. Did you do it or someone else?

If you, did you remove the O ring? If it didn't come out, the crank is not in the correct position and will probably give the same results as faulty crank.

Not really, I'm thinking along those lines too, but also being a GTV you may need to do a Idle reset as I suspect you have the 1.5.5 ECU.

Good to hear about the oil but is it still cutting out when warm?

Yep still cutting out - not as much though, and not just when it's warm?

If you weren't so far away I'd plug this in and see what's going on, I'm thinking this being a CF1 2.0 TS then with what it is doing this may well be an EGR issue, that's the valve ABOVE the starter on the inlet stub manifold.

Cheers Smaky - tis shit being in Scotland sometimes

Waz has a mate who is in Bellshill and he has a daignostic thingamabob, so he's gonna take it up at the weekend. At least then we will know what is up with it.

It's not lost a lick of oil again, no smoke, just the revs mucking about as you slow down, not getting any worse either . It's pretty much the same as when the crank sensor went the last time, and it was the twats that fitted it so no doubt they will have mucked it up if it is.

Bloody annoying though

Mmm, well I doubt it's the crank sensor again, but my best guess would be the EGR or the Idle Control Valve on the throttle body. If he hasFES then you an do an ICV reset and that may be all it needs.

And Bellshill, what a sh!thole.
