  1. Have just spent last 2 days with same issues and trolling through the usual suspects. BUT! When I did the engagement pin securing screw diagnostic, . . . for the first time ever . .. . IT FAILED !! Yep, when I checked the Pinch bolt, the last "supposed" Alfa Specialists had only done it up hand tight !!! I was able to remove it with just my fingers !!! New treated pinch bolt, torqued up per specs, EOL carried out . . . . Perfect, working as new. Also something to watch out for that caught me out and had me absolutely buggered at the time . . .BATTER VOLTAGE!!! All the diagnostic work and testing really saps your battery, and mine actually at one point got so low it "collapsed" to 9.00v. First thing I knew was I had Airbag, ABS, EOL, SOS and every light come alive!! I thought I must have "arced" the battery terminal when I last connected it. Then I went to start the car . . .All I got was two loud CLACKS from the SS and silence. As I was pouring gasoline over the car to use it as a funeral "Pryor" I went to put window down. . .. ohhhhh sooooo sloooow . . the penny finally dropped! Check Six Baz
  2. Alex, I swear, sometime I could just bite you !!
  3. This is probably one for Smaky. What is the best way to confirm that the inlet manifold gasket is allowing the Variator Solenoid Oil Galleries to leak into the inlet Manifold? Baz
  4. No, don't hold back, tell us what you REALLY think of the JTS. :He He: :Big Grin: I must admit, I'm a little biased towards my TS myself. Baz
  5. Hey Smaky, I am curious, in 2002/2003 the 156 production changed from TS to JTS engine, but the 147 stayed with the TS for its whole series. Anyone know the official reason why? Baz
  6. Bugger! And I assume AlfaOBD or MES won't do as you need something that is compiler & Flash capable? Baz
  7. Hi Alex, I have a 2000 156 2.0TS Selespeed, and love her. The ONLY thing that I dislike is the programming of the Selespeed ECU and how/when it decides to d/shift ect. Is it possible to replace the Selespeed ECU with one from say a 2003 JTS? If not, is it possible to reprogram it to operate the same? Baz
  8. Am helping friend get a 2003 156 JTS Sedan ready for sale, the Selespeed pump needed new brushes, so as I was taking the left front wheel arch lining out THESE fell down. http://pic20.picture...4/410123353.jpg http://pic20.picture...4/410123355.jpg http://pic20.picture...4/410123356.jpg http://pic20.picture...4/410123358.jpg Never seen anything like these before, they were just up there on top of the wheel lining, as you can see one of the plugs is pretty badly damaged. Now the car is also having problems with Eng Management, VDC, EBD, ABS failures & is in "Limp Home Mode" Could these have anything to do with these errors? Baz
  9. Check this out, much cheaper & better looking, but I may be slightly biased! http://www.ausalfa.c....php?f=4&t=9739 Baz
  10. Just do a search on EBay for "Alfa Romeo Air compressor", or "Alfa Romeo Air clutch" had a dozen pop up first go. Just make sure you set search to worldwide. Baz
  11. Voice of Experience there Smiffy? :Big Grin: Baz
  12. Just out of curiosity, what WAS the cause of his cold morning jerkiness ?? Baz
  13. If necessity is the mother of invention, then surely desperation is the father of it, for I have seen men with a necessity be very clever, yet wondered at how the desperate are driven to be downright bloody brilliant! - Baz
  14. I posted this on the Aussie Alfa Forum, for those who would like a drink in their 156, but have no place to put it. http://www.ausalfa.c....php?f=4&t=9739 Baz
  15. Every copy of eLearn for the 156 seems to have the same problem, if you select ANY 2.0TS, there are no Engine Procedures !! And there are many more gaps through out the other procedures for the 2.0TS! Does anyone have/know of a eLearn where the 2.0TS IS integrated correctly? Baz
  16. Is there / has anyone, written a guide for rebuilding / refurbishing, a Selespeed Actuator ? I just want to be able to double check myself when rebuilding them, and to make sure there isn't anything getting by me. If so could you give me a link, if not, point me in the direction of the closest to one. Thanks Baz
  17. Yes Smack, I AM aware of the obsolescence of my post to XYY81t's situation, it was mainly for the benefit of those searching the posts looking for solutions to any similar problems. :im Not Worthy: :Big Grin: Baz
  18. XYY81t, some may disagree with me but as for your jerkiness first thing all I can say is - MAF I SAY, MAF! MAF MAF MAF , MAF GODDAMMIT! It is the simplest sensor to fault check. My S/Sped was doing a jack rabbit every morning down the street. Cleaned it with isopopal alchohol and problem solved. When I have any problem related to sensors or anything electrical, its my first port of call
  19. Thanks Smaky, thank God, I am not going blind after all :Big Grin:
  20. This one might be for Smaky As has been discussed many a time in the various forums, to CORRECTLY reset your engine ECU you must use one of the "Diagnostic Software Programs" and use the special selection in them to do this. However! I have a 2000 Alfa 156 2.0 TS Selespeed with the Bosch Motronic ME3.1 Selespeed engine management, and NON of the Diagnostics HAS a reset selection for this particular Engine Management ??? Can anyone enlighten this poor sole as to how one does do so using one of the Diagnostics? Thanks in advance Baz
