  1. Cheers for that, All the bushes have been looked at which is why this is a real puzzler! thats great though, so helpful to have some advice! just sounds like the casing or something is loose around the shock itself. Ill keep driving it anyway and see if it gets worse, it doesn't seem to be. I will get it looked at again at some time though, its really annoying as its the only thing on the car thats not right.
  2. So..... I have pretty much ruled out the noise coming from the cabin, Paul at MDZ did mention the shock mounts, does anyone think it could be this? as it sounds as though its coming from the drivers side boot area I am thinking this might make sense. Also how easy are these to get to? I assume they might be a bit of a nightmare but im hoping not! lastly if I decide to look into this what sort of cost are we looking at parts/ labour? Cheers again guys
  3. Ha ha, oh well f£&k it then, could be worse volume up it is..... I should count my stars really, everything else is fine (touch head and croch region) but.... I will find the £&3rd one day
  4. I don't think my seat some up in the 159? I honestly can't find anything. Sorry snaky, not ignoring the post, you do mean the little rubber spring bits that pop the boot up yes? Thats my next stop, i too them out today but they seem fine, tightened them up again. My boot to be fair doesn't sit totally straight, the rhs window side lip is slightly out of place but there's no play when i press on it. It just doesn't sound like the boot lid. Maybe I'll try and record the sound? Lol.... I'll try anything.... Its the only rattle that really bothers me Earlier i asked the wife to listen out... She cant really hear it and her response was "that wouldn't bother me...." I feel like its mocking me! :/
  5. Thats a good point, no Bose I dont think, there is no amplifier or Sub in the boot, but it does sound like that kind of noise, I really cant explain it, just like a snooker ball in a tupperware in the boot! thats pretty random I know but ive thought about it... alot... On a positive note, the standard stereo is pretty good I think! much better than the tinny rubbish in my Honda Civic! The worst thing is, unless im driving I cant hear it, or make it rattle, my brother is over on Sunday so ill go out for a spin and get him to drive so I can listen out... I am thinking though after doing some reading that perhaps it could be an issue with the shocks? I hear that some have a few issues. I bet it will be embarrassing when I find the little bugger
  6. well, that was quick.... ok so the droplinks being replaced definitely helped, but.... the suspension being quieter just means the noise that was there is even MORE obvious. Its definitely a rattle from what sounds like the passenger side parcel shelf area or the boot. The guys in the workshop said the rest of the car was solid and couldn't see anything as did Paul at MDZ. So... this weekend the boot lining is coming off and im going to try and have a look at that parcel shelf...... so to update. Rattle 1: me 0 if anyone has anymore clues please do share!
  7. This is awesome I love tips like this, with your permission ill share it with the guys over on the clio V6 forum also as that is a very common thing there too!
  8. Welcome back dude nice looking car that, bit of polish on there? looks like you have decent beading. ( I know im tradgic)
  9. for now....... cheers again all.
  10. Ok so just heard back from the garage, it was indeed drop links, having both rear sides done to save for future hassle.. aaaaaand thats why I love car forums so much I hope this thread helps someone else out there sometime
  11. Thanks mate, thats really great advice, much appreciated. Its in the garage today, its a good friend of mine so I know they wont take me for a ride.. Ill mention the spring bumps for sure as im always up for an easy fix! the more I drive it the more I think you are right about the drop links, I know very little about cars so having advice from you guys is awesome. Thanks again
  12. To be fair after doing some specific reading about drop links you might be right, ill take it to the garage this week. Just at least gives me an idea of something to go with!
  13. Yeah I said that to the chap and he checked it all out with me there and it was fine! I have a local indy which i normally use so maybe it will be more obvious now if its been there a while. It just sounds like its coming from the boot rather than the suspension. Its an odd noise, not like any other, as if a cover is loose or something.
  14. Yeah I have had the boot carpet up completely and made sure the wheel is fitted down. We had the car up on the ramp at MDZ and we could literally see nothing loose at all. So bizarre! I bet its something really obvious lol
  15. Hi all So ive had my 159 now for 3 weeks, I love it! just had it fully serviced and a new power steering resevoiur and green fluid put in (instead of the red stuff) and had the car inspected at MDZ in Gatwick, Paul the tech there said the car is in fantastic condition and it has been well looked after by the looks of it. The ONLY thing we cannot fathom is a rattle/rumble noise at low speed coming from the rear of the car and what sounds like the parcel shelf, the suspension/ brakes/ tyres etc have been fully checked and are fine, it only happens on uneven road surfaces too. It sounds a bit like someone has put something in a Tupperware box, shut the lid and is shaking it about a bit. The only thing Paul suggested it might be is a plastic covering on the shock absorbers which he will look at if it gets any worse (which it isn't) im not a technical person to be honest but Ive literally checked everything I can, but has anyone got any other ideas? Touch wood its the ONLY rattle I have... so far Sam
  16. Welcome I'm new too, I have a 159 jtd which ive had for about a week! Completely fallen in love with it, very solid too!
  17. Most definitely! although little Hugo isn't allowed in the Alfa....... thats the dog by the way...
  18. I was there when they filmed casino royal and they wasted 9 astons. They were imitations either
  19. Does anyone have and opinions/ experience with the power steering fluid? there seems to be very mixed opinions. My steering rack is perfectly fine, no whines but the guy at MDZ suggests that the green, less viscous fluid is better, currently its red and the reservoir is a bit dirty looking, deffo leaked at some point. He also said to replace the reservoir at the same time to make sure the job is done properly. Not hugely expensive at all so happy to do it, it just concerns me a bit as im a 'if it aint broke dont fix it' kinda guy. Oh and the issue I had was a wheel nut not done up correctly..... cost to fix.. free, I hope thats the sign on things to come...
  20. Could you but a 159 and put 156 handles on it?? :Big Grin:
  21. The interior is lovely, no rattles/ squeaks either AND...... the windscreen wipers work perfectly.... atm, just love the beige seats, although they went mental with the beige, its literally everywhere lol I went for the 1.9 jtd in the end, I spoke to a couple of Alfa specialists, the latest was Paul at MDZ who suggested the 1.9 may be better for me. I dont get chance to sprint much so it has enough usable power. Still though, im pleasantly surprised but the torque and a nice comfy hug into your seat when you accelerate is a breath of fresh air when compared to my Honda Vtec which you do have to work hard if you want anything at all out of it. Overall im really pleased, its in the garage today to have a check, and a couple of bits done (my local indy, whom I trust implicitly) then its off to MDZ on saturday for a full inspection and service, im getting the nasty red steering fluid out too and replaced with the magic green stuff....
  22. Lol, it's well worth it, i used a paint cleanser (takes forever) after a clean and condition. Then polish, then canuba wax, I need to get the wheels off and give them a blast and get alloys re done and clean out the arches. Few bodywork bits to sort out but I'll get it booked into chips away soon. did you say you have used them? Anyway, after driving it today i love it even more
