  2. found this one but not sure if it is big enough and think the pipes are the biggest issue. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370753607424?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

  4. Right if I cant fix this engine is it possible to put a later one( GTV 166) in if I use the existing throttle body and change the radiator ( due to the pipes being on the opposite side ) and leave the existing engine loom in place is there any reason this wont work .? basically use the lump . My only concerns are the power steering pump and the alternator positioning. Thoughts anybody ?

  8. Hi Smaky found it it was an allen bolt covered in oil quite obvious when I knew what to look for. Problem is it wouldn't shift and the end of my allen socket has snpped clean of in the top any ideas as to what to do next ? I suppose there is no other way to remove the pump drive. would normally try and drill the bolt out gently but cant remove the allen key end from the bolt and not even sure I could drill through it any Ideas ?
  9. Hi Smaky got the cams out where is the nut is it obvious as cant see it ? You mean the cam shafts in the head ?
  10. thank you are a star do you know if i can lock it with a pin through the pulley to undo the front nut ? :Black Eye: I just cant see how to get at it do you get at it from the front above through the oil breather plate or is it at the back of thr head somewhere ?
  11. Right so doing the head gaskets got the front off no problem . the rear is free but something internal is stopping it from coming off . I think that it maybe to do with the oil pump drive how do I remove it . HEEEELLLLPPPP.

  14. found a stat insert from a 164 2.0 but the sealing ring is a bit too large but as this is only £7.50 not £40 got to be worth a fiddle to see what happens.

  17. Having now got the stat off the car it is possible to clamp the stat and remove I therefore think it should be possible to use the housing and replace the stat itself with one from the later type as they appear to be fitted in the same way just the housing is slightly different in design. Good news Me thinks. Will let you know how it goes when I get the new stat.
  18. oh bum. I will get one of my cars sorted if it kills me (which at this rate it probably will) Thanks smaky. Being on the dole is not good when you drive alfa's.
