  1. For me, I don't see where the law (in our case 'CU72', or the 'Construction And Use Of Motor Vehicles Act') needs clarifying. Vehicles can only show white lights to the front and red to the rear, amber indicators to both. There's never been any specified 'brightness' of either. The 'Road Traffic Act', however, is constantly being ammended in over fussy and trendy ways, and is a bit of a hobby for the traffic coppers, who could declare very bright lamps a nuisance if they're in the mood.
  2. The height of the beam isn't as important as the clarity of the pattern (the 'tick' that Munky referred to) They can be up to 6" lower than parallel to the ground, but no higher. The pattern must be clear enough to be distinguishable against the background of the beam tester card. This ensures that the reflectors and the lenses are sound. Strictly speaking, it's against the Construction & Use 1972 to drive a vehicle with headlights which aren't height adjustable, but if you pass the MOT then no one will ever know (unless you present for your next MOT with the boot full of lead ingots and the tester tries to wind them down) The bulbs being clean is important, too. Which is why it always says 'Don't touch the glass, stupid' on Lucas 472s. Very blurred pattern from a greasy bulb..
  3. Tidy. It's great how much fresher a motor looks with new plates, aint it though? Here, I hope you got a bit of a discount. You know that's not the flag of GB? Only kiddin'. My dad has similar plates, only with a wee St Andrews flag. On holiday in Belgium a few folk asked him 'Which country is 'X'?' Silly billies. It's all falling into place, Vard. She's gonna be a heartbreaker.
  4. ...one is reminded of the banner which can be seen hanging at the ground of popular Association Football club, the Manchester United, which declares: "United,Kids,Wife. In that order.", and it's resonance with the Von Dongalot family motto, "Bigger Turbos. The Rest Can Fuck Right Off.".........
  5. I've owned nothing but Rover, since 1999. A 618Si until 2006, and a succesion of 3 820 Vitesses since. I'd recommend the 820 Vitesse to anyone. (obviously) They're pretty scarce now (DVLA lists 80 taxed and 88 SORNed right now) but still can't raise much more than £900 in mint condition. 0-60 in 7.5, and the guts of 150mph. Where else do you get that for that kind of dough?
  6. I was hauled up in July for doing 98 in a 70, on Easter Monday. Magistrate wanted to ban me, despite my having no points previous. He settled for giving me 8 points and a £400 fine, before being reminded by my lawyer that he could only hand out 6 points at a time. You sleep a little easier when you realise our elders and betters are so wise. Twat. Lawyer cost me £300, so £700 in all. Totally worth it to see the look on the beak's face when he was exposed for not knowing the law he was being paid to uphold. Twat. (Did I say that already?)
  7. baaahahahaha! took the words out of my mouth Oh and yeah we have a legal team, its me... what of it? I'm a proper lawyer I am... well... I represented myself in court a few times, and had 58 points on my licence to show for it. 58, yes you heard it right, that my friends is a hell of an achievement, thus I am a good lawyer. Be serious: Have you contested speeding charges, in a court, on yer own? Really?
  8. My legal team have advised me that big red letters are well poncey. They want to advise your legal team that they will square go them, at the swings behind the chip shop. Failure to keep this appointment will constitute pure shiteing it out of a square go.
  9. OOOOOOOOOOOO you got a legal team? In Ayrshire Yeah I have. Batter your legal team any day.
  10. .....Krystof Von Dongalot? Seriously? Christ almighty, Vard.
  11. As we speak, my legal team are opening a thread called "This Is An Outrage", and posting 'this is an outrage' in it 10 times, after which they will send a stiffly worded PM to your legal people. There's gonna be consequences and repercussions, dammit!
  12. ...is that right? I had a PM, and it seems I can't send a PM, because I'm a newb. I've a good mind to send a stiffly worded letter to someone, demanding some sort of action.....
  13. Cheers, mokicat. I'm in Irvine. Where are you?
  14. Hello to all. I would like to sign in for the Scottish section, and represent for all my homeys who happen to be in the hood, or something. I am Gary. I reside in Ayrshire, also. I have to confess straight away that I do not own an Alfa Romeo, nor ever have done, but as I spent 12 years as a mechanic I did, as you can imagine, encounter them only very rarely as they have never been particularly popular with the motoring public. I'm sure, however, that their reputation for being unreliable and poorly built must have been something to do with it. I'm jokin', of course. I'm like everybody else who ever had even the slightest interest in cars, so of course I'd have to admit there's 'something about' Alfa Romeo. The likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz are car makers who people 'trust'. Alfa Romeo are that very rare kind of car maker: One which people seem to love. When I've just spent a couple of hours lying underneath my Rover in the freezing cold, and take it out to make sure it all still works and happen to pass an Alfa, I do tend to think "there goes another proper car enthusiast, who has no time for those boring marques which keep going all the time and nothing falls off of them." Hardly anyone loves cars properly anymore, do ye not think? Munky told me about this place. I thought I'd join in because he's always right about stuff.
