  1. The fan comes on with the air con to irrespective of the engine temp, I believe the Ecu switches the fan on when the coolant temperature reaches 93 degrees, well on the cf2 it does shouldn't think it's much different on the cf3
  2. phew you were lucky with those spark plugs, i would have warned you not to put them back in if i'd have seen this thread earlier. One of the little ones in my old QV snapped off on the way out requiring a head-off job and helicoil insert aaaah good times :/ here's the thread if you're intersted http://forum.alfa145.com/index.php?showtopic=17670
  3. The deal breaker for me was that the inner wing was bent and buckled as well as the outer wing, while i could have easily replaced the broken bits (bumper, Bonnet, grille, light, wing) i couldnt have done a decent enough repair on the inner wing to get her spot on again, plus with CAT C/D write off on her record her eventual value would be lower aswell. Not to mention the fact that i was looking to sell her on anyway :/
  4. I couldn't deal with the hassle of sorting her through vic checks and what-not. i had every intention of buying her back to use the good parts on another QV that i have sat waiting to be fixed. But, the insurance company wanted £350 for it as Salvage Value, and they wanted me to collect the car from their storage in Rugby (not allowed to drive it so hire a trailer etc) and then when i had finished with the car and was ready to move the shell on they wanted a certificate of destruction which my local scrappy would only provide if the car was complete! so more cost and hassle to hire a trailor again to take it somewhere further. so after recovering from the headache of those telephone conversations I decided to just let her go. Be that a bad decision or not, its one i have to live with.
  5. Spot on Smaky! just over £3100 to sort needless to say they have written her off but they valued her at £1400 pre-accident value which is better than what i was expecting. so minus my excess i have a bit of dough to play with when buying a new car, just need to find one i like now....
  6. thanks for all your kind words, i am fine apart from a slightly bruised ego, the Mrs will never let me forget about this one
  7. i am gutted, tried to drive to work this morning while half asleep and rear ended one of my neighbours going to claim on insurance as the third party is so my policy is affected whatever, hopefully they will decide that they can repair but i'm not holding my breath.
  8. yep all appears as it was before?! lol god knows what was wrong with her. just been for a test drive and appart from a juddery start (expected) she behaved perfectly... Baffles me, i'll remember next time to try each acctuator individually to try and 'free' it off, if it was even stuck, my understanding of the system is not great enough to hazard a guess, even more baffling is the lack of any error codes or malfunction warnings.. hey ho, i'll send the mrs to work Tuesday armed with her RAC card and see what happens! Thanks again Smaky
  9. well i have managed to get gears now. i activated the disengage gear solenoid via FES and then the odd gear selector solenoid the same way, it made quite a loud clonk noise and was in 5th after. Now all gears are selectable again although 5th takes the acctuator a few attempts to engage, i'm running the calibration routine now. hopefully all is well after...
  10. no change in system behaviour after connecting battery leads together for ten seconds. i checked the fluid level and it is sitting above the max mark, pretty sure it used to be bang on the max mark. i'm about all weekend and monday if you didn't mind popping over and casting your expert eye over it.. assuming i can't diagnose it with your guidance on here
  11. my sele has been behaving nicely since my last cry for help: http://www.alfadriver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1694 Now however we have a new problem and i need confirmation of the issue. Symptoms are the gearbox will select no gears what so ever, pressure is fine, clutch rod length is fine no error codes reported, just wont go out of Neutral with the engine off or on. My suspisions are that this is caused by the clutch giving up although the clutch release arm seems to be moving as normal. anyone know what this might be or how to diagnose so i can get her back on the road cheers folks.
  12. Simples! decision made but..... as far as convertibles go is not the 916 spider the most manly? or is the mx5 still wearing that crown?
  13. ok going back to engines a quick wiki read reveals a difference between 12 and 24 valve the 24 being 162kw, did they not put a 24v v6 in the spider? if not the decision is made! lol
  14. Thanks anjenha, id be considering a phase 2 with the 3.0 v6 so they would both have the same 141KW output wouldn't they? i thought the 3.2 v6 was only on the phase 3. sorry should have made that clearer. also on the weight issue, i thought the 916 was designed with convertible in mind so the GTV had the same chassis bracing as the spider? clarification sought on that point
  15. comparing V6 to V6 is there a difference in the driving experience between them (ignoring top down cruises, i'm talking A + B road blasts)
  16. Not that then, it makes a grating sqeeky noise when cold, sounds to me like the dampers are dry
  17. ok, does anyone know if it works with standard 147 bose h unit? i have no idea how to find out what model it is?!
  18. I have a CD Changer for sale I was going to get her one with an SD card slot so the cds could be binned but...... I'm listening
  19. the mrs wants a new stereo in the 147, as the changer is broke beyond repair and the cds jump in the head unit like there's no tomorrow. What specs do i need to consider to work with the bose system and preserve the operation of the steering wheel controls?

    A sad day.

oh, well mines been on for six months now so i think its alright, would this affect the TS tensioners? they aren't the same surely?

    A sad day.

166 3.0 V6, cambelt tensioner failed 30 miles after fitting, a faulty part supplied by buypartsby.com, fortunately I didn't source the parts, the tensioning spring failed on it and unwound releasing all tension on the belt and allowing the cams to go out of sync, we'll see how the arguement with BPB goes as on examination of the tensioner afterwards it's not the SKF type which the box would suggest it was. £600 car needing £1500 work. 156 2.0 JTS Sele, low oil, big end knock and worn cams, other wear damage unknown. Basically new engine time. £1500 car in need of £1500. A shame really as for both vehicles when both donks are done then they're 100% again, but cost rules out repair. Oh dear, good job i got my cam belt service items from EB Spares then

    A sad day.

elaborate?! what were they and how did they kill them? lack of oil i'm guessing, a GT, GTV or spider?
  23. yep, moral of the story.. never doubt the master
  24. thought i'd update this as its been a while. the 147 is driving perfectly no issues concerning gear changes at all! so the new accumulator seems to have been the problem..who knew! still have a jerky clutch every morning though which i will at some point get onto
  25. have you sent a e-mail to http://www.rsfabrications.com/? they know their stuff and although a bit on expensive side, but you get what you pay for, seen their work on my mates mini cosworth - its flawless, if anyone will do it right they will
