Shimmy @40Mph

Recommended Posts

I have a 156 that shimmies at between 40 & 45 mph over that speed it's fine until I get to about 80ish when I get the classic out of balance steering shake there is no knocking from suspension bits but they do creak a bit. Is it just a case of the wheels out of balance and the 2 problems are connected or is it a failure of anyone of the suspension bits.

Thanks

Mark

most likely its just the wheels out of balance but it could be something like a ball joint or bush worn out.

Get the wheels balanced first, only costs a tenner or so. If that doesnt fix it, get it up on a ramp and check the steering components for wear.

90% of the time it's a buckled wheel, 9% it's a wheel wieght gone walkies, 1% other (ball joint, nail, CV joints, tyre bulge), personaly I'd jack it up and spin the wheels looking for clean spots where a wieght gone and watch the rin to ensure it's round.

Odd thing happened today i noticed the undertray had come loose at the back on the drivers side and also where it attaches to the wheel arch liner so I got under and cable tied it up and it seems to have cured the wobble a bit. Is it possible for a loose undertray to cause the problem?

Anything is possible, if it'sbeen rubbing the tyre then it'll be scuffed on the inside edge.

Need it like everyone else to stop raining then i can get under properly and have a good look
