Did this a while back. Clear coats on the headlights were starting to peel and lights seemed to be turning yellowish. Got some fine sandpaper ( cant remember the grids), water sandpaper, some rubbing compound. Started by sanding off all clear coat, then water sandpapered and then polished with the compound and then with some leftover liquid polish I had in the garage. I think it came out great for real cheap. Here's a before and after pic of driverside light I've done. Unfortunately I did not take more pics of the whole process.
