  1. Morning folks, I have the familiar sound of a worn cam variator now just checking the prices they seem to be double the cost from 2011, and a repair kit is considerably cheaper Question is, is it more cost effective to buy a replacement or are the repair kits just as good?
  2. Dunno if I'm posting in the correct place, but I have made a severe logistical error. Has anyone got 4 spare wheels with tyres I can borrow for a day please? I have sold the wheels on my car but the replacements can't be collected till tomorrow and the guy collecting mine is due this evening, I got them the wrong way round Doh! I won't be driving on them just won't be leaving the car in the air on axle stands ( neighbours are a bit snotty round here)
  3. Just got the sillyspeed MOT'd, and I have worked out including purchase price, parts (donor car), and the MOT itself it has cost me £240. Not bad huh?
  4. Afternoon folks Can I reset the airbag light without alfadiag or ECU multiscan?
  5. I have 4 Zender Champion alloys wheels for sale, could do with a refurb, tyres have a fair amount of life left in them, pick up from Thame in Oxfordshire, £50
  6. Yep, I've owned five Alfa's now and each one has destroyed bits of my toolbox :/
  7. It was bloody tight, and the idler bearing was very, er what's the word....."grindy"
  8. Scrub that, used a six point dog leg spanner and a length of scaffold tube
  9. OK I give up, what's the secret to getting the auxiliary belt idler pulley off? I can't even fit socket and ratchet in the gap, I'm guessing there is either a special tool, or some special trick, please don't tell me I need to undo engine mounts just to get it off
  10. Yeah that plan has been shelved now, the sportwagon shell isn't as solid as first thought, and after a closer look my selespeed isn't as bad as first thought
  11. I was thinking that once the sheddy sele gets its Mot I've probably got another year out of it, that gives me six months to collect all the parts for my ideal car ( black sportwagon, facelift front, facelift dashboard, red leather, either 2.5 with qtronic, or selespeed) and then six months to build
  12. Well the sportwagon turned up and it is incredibly solid, however the situation of half strippedness under the bonnet has led me to the conclusion of pulling off the bits I need to get the sele through the mot, and then what to do with the wagon?
  13. Morning folks Will I find the extra plug on my single cat car to be able to fit the twin cat exhaust off my donor car? Or am I pissing in the wind?
  14. The failure sheet wasn't as long as expected, it was mainly exhaust and tyre related, I might just use the sportwagon for replacement parts including a bumper not held together with gaffer tape and araldite.
  15. Thanks for that, the sportwagon is a 1.8 and I will be keeping the selespeed engine and box together, the saloon is not going to pass, the exhaust sounds like a skeleton wanking in a biscuit tin and the brakes pulse when you slam your foot on them, oh and I have an airbag light and either drop links or antiroll bar is clonking over pebbles
  16. Morning everybody, got myself a cheap sheddy 156 selespeed that goes like poo of a spade, but I have the MOT today and I know its not gonna pass, I have however been offered an unbelievably straight solid sportswagon with a buggered gearbox ( manual ) so question is how much of a pain in the cock would it be to swap?
  17. Hi folks back again, this time with a sheddy 156 selespeed
  18. Update spoke to the current owner and it only does it when warm, and there is a slight leak from one of the actuators.
  19. Hi folks after returning with my budget sillyspeed which my stepdaughter has purloined off me I realise I can't live without an Alfa, I have found another for a bargain price but it has a known issue of sometimes not engaging 1st or 3rd. So my question is... Is this a common issue with a common/easy/cheap repair ?
  20. Will sort out putting some pics up this weekend (first opportunity since collecting it to do anything to it) but it appears that my step daughter has claimed it as hers "cos its smaller than the Saab"
