  1. Thanks Smaky Any thoughts on catless centre pipes as an alternative? Or will I be chasing MSCF errors
  2. Fair enough, but the throttle response would also improve? After I installed my Unicorse II backbox, I thought I got more HP (say 7-10ish) but also a better throttle response, or was I just so taken with the exhaust note I got this all wrong! Something like 100 or 200 cell? Do you mean increase the plenum - such as the ACT one discussed on AO? Was never going to change the flanges, rather have my exhaust shop make up connector pipes from the CF2 2 bolt to the 3 bolt centre pipes Sounds like I should spend my money and time elsewhere... :-)
  3. The 166 headers definitely do not have lambda bosses
  4. Thanks smiffy. I'm on holidays so have not sited the headers yet so not sure re lambda's I've not heard good reports re ELFPs due to drone or canceling of back box sounds (plus low ground clearance), so will just do the exhaust shop downpipes So how many seat of the pants extra HP did you get
  5. I've got a hold of a set of 166 headers (CF2) and understand that it's a fair deal to install them (unless you're due a clutch). Whilst it can be done with engine in there's about 6-8 hours labour... So I'm weighing up the pro's v cons. Has anyone done the CF2 install - was there any real worthwhile improvement? I was also thinking of ceramic coating them as well to further reduce the under bonnet temps. The CF2's don't meet up with the stock center pipe so a visit to the exhaust shop is also needed for a custom connection pipe.
  6. Cheers Smaky, I'll give it a go this weekend
  7. 05 156 JTS SW Upon cold start I can hear an exhaust leak coming from front of engine for about 20-30 seconds I suspect a cracked header or gasket issue Is there an easy way to determine where the leak is coming from to then work on a fix or do I need to start removing heat shields to get a closer look Thanks in advance
  8. yes, that's what i meant when i referred to it as a full remap
  9. resetting the ecu means you are clearing out the RAM - that is clearing out any stored details that the ecu has accumulated a reason to do so would be the installation of a new component that the ecu reads from and makes adjustments based on its feedback - such as a crank sensor, MAF, etc. I would not advise to reset because you have put in a new exhaust as the ecu should learn how to handle that from sensors. if your exhaust changes are major then perhaps you would consider a full remap
  10. You can drive it however you like as by resetting the ecu is goes back to a standard setting that the factory believes should work fine. However all cars are different and driven differently. the ecu will learn your car the more it is driven. Some cars have rough idle after a reset due to the car needing some adjustments to smooth things out - if this happens it will right itself in a couple of days unless there is an underlying issue. My suggestion to drive like you stole it merely refers to my preference to get in the params I want in the ecu ASAP. Insert smiley face here
  11. Use MES to reset then drive like you stole it for 15 minutes
  12. I have same issue, but don't know of a fix
  13. ebspares will get them to me in no time, but I have other commitments over the next couple of weeks
  14. Thanks Smaky Thanks Dave I'll get a thermostat, new plugs and report back in a few weeks after parts arrive
  15. Smaky could you do a JTS de carbon how to please
  16. Just did a MES check on engine temp Got to bosses car 30 minutes after she got home so still warmish Ran for about 7 minutes at idle and temp gauge @ 75 but MES @ 90 took for a drive and within 2 minutes of slow driving it got down to gauge @ 62 MES @ 78 drove for a few more minutes and MES temp stayed @ 78 until I got home
  17. hopefully smaky will confirm you've got it correct - that is #3 and #15 refer to the main cat i feel the same about ePer - confusing...
  18. i'm not so sure as this diagram http://www.myalfa.eu/index.php?cat=c482_2-0-JTS.html has a price of 155 euro and the headers as 1646 euro. surely the cat would be over 500 euro?
  19. I'l check it via MES tonight Which ones the main cat in this pic? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/trublutru/exhaust.gif
  20. cheers alfa156melb i thought that they were pre-cats but you are saying they are infact the only cats in that case they do not glow i just need to get the new thermo and report back
  21. Thanks but no matter how many times i read that second sentance I dont understand it still dont know where the cats are to see if they glow
  22. Senna was the best but I just don't like that artwork.
  23. thanks smaky I'll order a thermostat asap i have a laser temp guage - just dont know where to point it - the pre-cats dont glow oil consumption is approx 1L/5000km using castrol edge full synthetic 10w60
  24. I've edited so it's now MES not FES.
  25. The minister of finances 2005 JTS 156 sportwagon has the P0420 and P0430 errors (suggesting cats are cactus) it has 60m/97k on the clock. Starts well, idles fine, fuel economy is good but lacks power. Only run on 98 octane The thermostat is probably shagged as it doesn't get above 60. Plugs are due. Inlet including maf is clean Small exhaust leak near headers for first 30 seconds from cold start up Have run fuel injector cleaner, reset ecu and upper cylinder clean (seafoam) and it came good but a couple of months down the track and its running slow again. checked ecu and the errors are back. so i was going to get the leak checked, new thermostat and plugs but what about the cats. How can I be sure they are infact dead? TBH I really don't know where they are, I can see the front precats and the muffler under the handbrake - is the cat somewhere in between?
