  1. Hi guys! My 156's Selespeed warning light will come on and start beeping for a few seconds every now and then, has this happened to any of you? My previous accumulator wouldn't hold pressure anymore so I had it swapped with one off my old actuator beginning of this year. Since then it has been working fine and never skipped a beat, with every gear change a successful one, haven't had to top up ATF since then too! However, the Selespeed light and beeping seems to come up at random times for no reason at all. While it is beeping, I can still go in and out of neutral and change gears with no problem at all. I also noticed that the beeping seems to disappear as soon as I step on the throttle. While it hasn't affected my car noticeably yet, I am puzzled by this behaviour. Sometimes it will beep 3-4 times in a day, or it'll just stay silent 3-4 days at a time. Any ideas?
  2. It does resemble the M3 CSL or current gen Honda Accords a bit, but I like it cause its not over the top and goes well with the 156's lines ^^
  3. Nice, though I thought the whole thing is gonna stick to the bootlid. Flows well with the car's profile, definitely like it better than the Zender hi wing ^^
  4. Pics please! Very curious how it'd look like; first time seeing this spoiler!
  5. Hi! Has anyone got this spoiler on your car? I've gotten one since January but have yet to paint or install it. On the spoiler I can see holes for 2 self-tapping screws. Has anybody installed it just with tape and no screws? If possible at all I'd like to avoid drilling my boot lid; weather's on the hot side here and I'm not sure if tape will hold it well.
  6. Advice taken Smaky; told workshop to go ahead and replace the rack, gonna be parting with RM1800 or about 380GBP later Just curious so gonna take my old rack back try my luck reconditioning it as a spare. Btw, someone did suggest to me that flushing the fluids from the brake, engine, steering systems maybe once every 2-3 years as leak prevention maintenance. From past service receipts my car's gotten an engine, cooling, aircond and brake flush in the past year. I'm sure new fluids will do the systems good but does the leak prevention part hold any truth?
  7. Alright, so the diagnosis from the workshop is a steering rack leaking from both sides. They said it isn't possible to fix the steering rack and offered to fit a used one with 6 months' warranty. Is it true that it can't be fixed? From what I understand the oil is held within the power cylinder by 2 end seals, so I was thinking new end seals should fix the problem if the insides of the cylinder is still fine.
  8. *Sigh* You're right as always Smaky; there must have been a very minute leak previously. This morning I noticed ATF behind the left front wheel, checked that the Selespeed tank is nicely filled so no problems there. This evening I noticed the steering groaning again so I added some ATF3 (it was low again) before the drive and bought another bottle on the way home just to be safe. By the time I got home the slow leak on the left side has kinda developed into a rapid drip on the right side under the aux drive area. My floorway is all red now but the Power Steering fluid level is still high, I guess that'll all change once the pump kicks into action. And the best part? The fuel pump top I covered with steelweld is leaking again, joy! Why can't Italian cars hold their fluids properly??
  9. Yep, that's my only remaining worry about the pump and tank! I've kinda forgot to check it for the past 2 months and the grinding noise has been there for quite a while so I'm not sure how fast the fluid disappeared, gonna check it weekly from now! Thanks Smaky!
  10. Hi again guys! Turned out that there really was a lot of air in the power steering system! I filled the tank to the brim, turned the steering lock to lock about 10 times until I can't see anymore froth, and the steering is all light and silent again, even the noise from the aux drive has disappeared
  11. There're no leaks I can detect so far. I check the floor for fluids / oil every morning after pulling my car out of the driveway, a habit I developed after far too many adventures with a Xantia Anyway, the fluid level was normal and clear when I checked just now, but after turning the steering lock to lock about 6 times, the fluid level has dropped drastically. Started the engine, turned the steering a bit and the level is up again but it's all frothy this time, steering turns lighter after this but it still groans. I guess this indicates a lot of air within the system? I now suspect that the whining from the aux drive area is from the PAS pump too. Not sure if it helps but I'll try removing the aux belt to single out the whining later. Gonna try steering with engine off then topping fluid again too! Is there anything else I should try or look for?
  12. Hi guys! I'm having a similar problem; I can hear some light grinding/whining from one of the pulleys occasionally, then out of the blue yesterday the car started groaning whenever I turn the steering. The groaning is especially noticable when turning at low speeds, I get the same sound even when turning the steering with the car stationary. When I checked the steering fluid level this morning it wasn't especially low, but I noticed some froth after a 2 minute drive. Topped up the fluid but the noise is still around. Will changing the power steering fluid bottle solve this, or would I need a new pump and pulley bearing as well? Thanks!
  13. Alright! Thanks Smaky! Just asking in case I need to replace my accumulator again! Gonna get a new accumulator and do it myself next round. I still get some Selespeed beeping sometimes out of the blue; maybe 1 to 4 times every 3 days or so, mostly in cold or rain. Everything works great though, so I suspect it's an errant pump/sensor/failing accumulator/loose wire yada yada and it's enough to have me on the edge of my seat ^^
  14. Hi Smaky! Thanks for the helpful guide! I'd just like to ask if it's absolutely necessary to shear the 27mm wrench or will a normal one do?
  15. Thanks a lot 2spark! My front badge is 75mm as the normal ones, just that the center caps are 65mm; I see that they have that in stock too! Gonna measure and confirm the diameters before ordering! Thanks again mate
  16. Thanks 2spark! Appreciate the effort! Yeah, my wheel centers are faded so I'm gonna make new monochrome ones for it as well. No luck getting any ready made ones as mine is 65mm. All the caps I see so far are roughly 45-60mm.
  17. Weird, for some reason I can't find any of em on eBay. Just got my new front emblem yesterday, kinda feel sorry that it's not gonna be long before the colours fade all the way once I stick it on the car. Any recommended seller for these vinyl covers? Btw the monochrome badge and Cadamuro grill looks awesome on a black car. I'm thinking it'll be great on my white one too ^^
  18. May I know where did you get the monochrome Alfa Romeo emblem from? I just bought a new normal one after failing to locate monochrome emblems
  19. Yep! I've a spare actuator and accumulator previously removed from the car, swapped the accumulator on Thursday! Only niggle was it failed to go into reverse or even numbered gears the very same night after some use, treated the wires and fuses to some contact cleaner and it has been fine so far! Thanks you!
  20. Haha thanks guys! No luck with car yet, sent the car to the reputable and expensive local Alfa workshop this morning. Fingers crossed the bill wouldn't make me eat crumbs for the coming month They just made me wallet about a 100 pounds poorer for a secondhand alternator last week.
  21. Hi all! Newbie from Malaysia here! I have a 2002 156 2.0TS, a Selespeed with the new interior and dashboard display. When I first got the car it has a habit of spitting Selespeed fluid from the oil tank breather hose when parked, since then I've rerouted the breather hose into a small bottle with a ventilation hole and that has solved the oil leak problem; hadn't had to refill ATF-III in weeks and the fluid level remains nicely at MAX. Beginning from Sunday, the Selespeed oil warning light blinks and beeps for 2 seconds every 10 seconds. With the key turned to MAR, the beeping comes after every minute or gearchange. I've covered roughly 30 kilometers on Sunday and Monday and the problem persists, car hasn't been driven since then. While driving, the car changes gear as usual with no problem at all; I can engage all gears with the engine on or off. It doesn't go into N automatically, and keeping the car in 1st gear at the lights is no problem either. The pump runs for 2-3 seconds when I open the drivers door. I believe it is also the pump I hear running with every gearchange while in MAR. The actuator has been replaced less than 3 months ago, and there isn't any leak I can detect. I've removed, checked and used contact cleaner on most relays, fuses, and wires around and under the battery, but still no luck in getting rid of the blinking warning light and beeping. Swapping the relays around makes no difference either. I think I've tried checking out almost everything within my capability, so I'd appreciate it if anyone could enlighten me on what could be causing the problem. I think the pump should be alright so is it possible that the accumulator is failing? Btw, I've downloaded FIATECUSCAN and will soon purchase a OBD-II VAGCOM KKL cable. Is there anything in particular I should look out for when choosing a cable? Many thanks for advice that may come
  22. Just realised I posted this outside the technical section, gonna repost there
