  1. Hi Smaky Will try the earth to check on the ECU body Did not cure will attempt at downloading new software for TRW with your help to create a test rig
  2. You are correct pkr. The connector was taken apart and it will go short circuit pin 13/14 when unplugged.turning on the light The diagnostics show two faults Battery supply low ( Measures 12.6 volts on supply feed on pin15) Airbag Indicator light on ( reads 56ohm to earth on pin 13 when ECU connected) The binnacle has been substituted with a new one The Airbag harness was tested for continuity and the reading for pre tensioner and airbag tested OK Earth checked on the ECU wiring . Cannot find any fault. It is pointing to a duff ECU Late last night I have noticed the ABS light also not self testing.... Any body got any ideas? as I am losing the will to carry on for the moment hoping for some ideas ..
  3. Hi Smaky The cluster has been replaced and it did not cure the problem I found that Pin 13 and 14 to be short circuit on the ECU plug and PKR from the alfaowner site suggest that the plug goes short when unplugged accidentally or on purpose This make total sense. This condition would light up the Airbag light as a default to show that the airbag ecu is inoperative. So I may have a different fault on the ECU or the plug is short circuiting intermittently! !!!!! Interesting fault Next stage get to then garage and prove the suggestion by PKR.
  4. Well, eventually traced the fault to a short circuit between pin 13 and 14 earth on the ECU multi pin connector . Why it failed I do not know as no signs of bent pins or signs of any carbon tracking . Does anyone know if you can obtain a new connector ( Yellow 30 Pin) or is this loom replacement? Has anyone attempted this plug repair any advice be appreciated .....
  5. My phase 1 spider 1996 has an airbag light on which I cannot clear the fault with diagnostics. I have a replacement ECU (TRW 60625181) at hand on a repair or return basis from a fellow Alfa owner. However, I am reluctant to install the ECU as I now consider it would not cure the problem as I have identified a short circuit to chassis on the ECU diagnostic line that feeds the airbag LED in the Binnacle.(Pin 1 Binnacle to Pin 13 ECU ) Has anyone had this fault and know the cure? I have already started to strip the spider trying to trace the wiring but it is proving very elusive to find a specific connector G380 has anyone any ideas where it is ? Any help or advise would be appreciated
  6. Can I suggest you get Smaky to buy a secondhand gearbox on your behalf and refurbish it, . Or at least check it over and courier to Jersey or you catch the ferry and collect it > It is about a two hour drive to where he lives from Pompeii beside he can certainly give you one to one tuition at the same time. Oxfordshire is not as pretty as Jersey but at least we have SMAKY.. It won't cost £2640.and is that with VAT?
  7. Just got the MOT with the one advisory (leaking Exhaust Gas) the MOT garage tries to give value for their £40 !!!! Will be taxing on 1st October then long road test to see if any problems still there. Smaky did the work for me and when he gets a bit of spare time he will do an autopsy on the internals of the gearbox. I know this thread is long with little conclusion but it is a spare motor so I haven't been in a rush
  8. Replaced gearbox and carried out end of line calibration Appears OK . Will have to get MOT and then do a long test drive to confirm it is cured.
  9. Alfapat kettle got reboiled ..Update Smaky had changed the actuator as I had a spare, as my original was leaking from the clutch pudshrod area. The EOL calibration was successful .Driving the car now ,it changes 1st and 2nd gear, but it now fails immediately to get into 3rd gear. It now goes back to 1st gear . Starting to look like a gearbox fault being masked by the selespeed actuator . next stage to remove gearbox and inspect... Will let you know
  10. Hi alfapat, I haven't contacted Smaky as yet due to home refurbishment and the garage is storing furniture , but I will be on Smaky case for his advise and help next week hopefully Will publish when cleared
  11. I Believe that Smaky means Alfapat can be contacted via the alfaowner.com forum site Ps I am also starting to experience the same problem/symptons with my Selespeed If I find a solution I will let you know as I am going to ask Smaky to give me hand to investigate.. I personally do not think this will be an easy fix due to the erratic nature of not selecting 3rd or 4th after a while.
  12. change password

  13. Good post Smaky worth the effort if it saves £250
  14. i totally agree with Smaky about the Plusgas, Are using a six sided socket? or one of these multi segment/ universal sockets because they will round off most tight nuts> ( feels like l there is a joke in the sentence )
