Twin Spark Inlet Manifold Gasket

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Does anybody have a step by step description of how to remove and inspect the Inlet Manifold Gasket on a Twin Spark? I want to see if there is a leak there and if so, fix it using sealant/replace the gasket.

Many thanks in advance!

OK,

Disconnect the battery,

Remove the engine cover,

Remove the air ducting from the air filter to throttle body,

Remove the battery,

Uplug the Throttle body, cam, crank, knock, injectors, ECU, evap valve, ecu earth and variator,

Unclip all the wiring from the manifold and move it clear,

Squirt some plusgas down to the injector seals, remove the 2 torx bolts holding the rail down and then gently wiggle the whole rail to release the injectors from the manifold (this way keeps the fuel lines CLOSED and SAFE), spin the rail round on the connector and it will sit on the scuttle happily,

Disconnect the coolant return pipe from the header tank and move out the way,

Reaching under the manifold remove the 2X 15mm bolts attatching the center support bracket (if the car is in the air then these can be got onto directly using about 24" of extensions on a rattchet handle),

Remove the upper stabiliser link,

Unmount the steering reservoir (2 x 5mm allen bolts),

Remove the 2 x 13mm bolts which attatch the mainifold to the stub, 1 is located at each end,

Support the gearbox and loosen the gearbox mount bolt (if you go too far it will just drop down onto the subframe),

Unclip the 8 clamps on the inlet hoses and the breather and brake vacumm and disconnect,

Gently wiggle the plastic manifold backwards and it should come away, then ensuring you really have uncliped all the wiring it will slide out of the bay,

Now just remove the nuts from the studs mounting the stub to the head, pull the stub off and there is your gasket.

SIMPLESK !!!
