Bigdar 62 Report post Posted September 15, 2013 Started to give the engine bay a bit of a clean and I've noticed that the heatshield (manifold ?) is pretty ropey. So firstly, is it needed ? If its an essential part, are there any better ones available as the originals look very thin anyway.

smiffy 99 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 The heat shield is essential it deflects heat away from parts in the engine bay. Replace it or get the down pipes ceramic coated or heat wrapped
Bigdar 62 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Might replace it then. Main dealer I guess ?

Gibot123 16 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Think they are made from a sort of thick ally foil similar to thick tin foil. Where is it broken. Mine has gone round the fitting holes . So for now I've put some thin sheet metal cut pieces at the back with a hole drilled in them to fit then large over sized washers a bit bigger than a 50p and used this to clamp the shield in between stopped it rattling and from the front looks quite tidy. If its not too bad you could repair it then use some very high temp (V.H.T.) paint to tidy it up . It's always easier to clean a painted surface even if you replace this might be a good option . Bigdar 62 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 The holes are ok, but it looks like its torn a little. Just looks tatty.
Gibot123 16 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Yeah sounds like you'd be better off changing it really see if Smacky can mail you one if he's got one. They just seem to get brittle with age. I would still think about painting it just easier to clean . The alloy gets grotty pretty quick and never really looks that good . I've been racking my brain to think if there is something you could use to fix it but due to the heat there I can't think of anything at all. You might be able to solder it but not sure if it would last to be honest.
Smaky 73 Report post Posted September 17, 2013 New ones aren't available from the stealers anymore so it's DIY or HTS.
