Selespeed Psychosis

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

So heres the story,

Just brought a 156 2.0 TS for my wife about a month ago, went over it all good no weird beeps and selespeed was smooth and pulled hard (love that nice little blip it does for downchanges :)

Recently however its developed a couple of issues which ive worked on in 2 stages.

Firstly, after warming up the clutch actuator appears to start doing full stroke when in neutral and when it does this the car bunnyhops, Im guessing this is either clutch pos sensor or EV0, tried rotating EV0 with another solenoid, but when i did this the clutch wouldnt move at all so i ended up swapping back just to get the car running gain.

i notice if the car is moving on a freeway (cools down) the issue goes away untill it heats up

clutch is at 29'ish mm at the moment, have done bleed and EOL, which made it a lot smoother and gave it better bite when cold but hasnt helped when hot.

Seccondly, possibly in all my messing around :Tounge: i may have pissed something off in the gearbox or ive angered the little gremlins inside one of the other solenoids or (possibly the engagement sensor?), as the car now randomly decides it will skip 3rd gear into 4th and at its worst decides it wants to get stuck in 2nd or 4th, when i try to shift out of these gears the actuator appears to try but fails. pulling over and bouncing the actuators usualy sorts this out again and where good to go

Im getting an ENG lever switch error popping up whenever this happens

.

Sometimes when starting the car wont go into neutral. it seems to try to move from 4th or 3rd to N but bounces back and forwards, if i bounce the actuators with multiecuscan to push the car into 2nd or reverse the car will then move to N then start.

im starting to think maybe ive upset the orings on the engagement solenoid or possibly the pot

Ive got 2 Pots comming in the post from the UK as i type this (should come next week) but am wondering where i can go in the meantime

(would like to replace all the orings but cant find anywhere to get these in australia).

Please help!

Thanks in advance

If you're in Melbourne, try Maranello PurSang in Brunswick, they're outstanding and may be able to help.. http://www.maranellopursang.com/

The clutch rod length must be 28mm - 28.5 by the way. in fact it needs to be as close to 28mm as possible but NEVER under. Fixing that may sort may of your woes out...

got it to 28.12, used some of my elec eng background to poke through the wiring saw some poor earthing and some questionable sockets which i got some cleaner and some connector grease into.

sensors "seemed" fine including the clutch speed sensor (tested with a magnet :)) tightened it all back up

and this time ran EoL successfully.

seemed nice and tight shifting sounded nice and consistent.

went for a blast with the missus watched it with multiecuscan, then after it got a little warner, 15-20 mins of driving it started to skip 3rd into 4th or just outright fail to upshift and cook some clutch by dropping out of and back into 2nd. but while she cold at full throttle.... smooth as silk.

came back home with the warmed up box ran EoL again still came up clean (cleared 1,2,3 switch errors from the seleECU)

turned the car off went inside for a pee and when i came back out couldnt start the car, gearbox was stuck in 3rd....????? would swap to ALL other gears including 4/5 & reverse but would not go to N, as soon as i tried, jumped back to 3rd

cooled down.... was fine again....

frustrating....

thinking one of the sensors has gone defunct?

time to swap the engagement pot Smacky?

i might also note the wiring on this particular selespeed unit is not the best a few of the connectors are brittle and have signs of fatigue, i want to replace that but noone in sydney can supply a selsepeed loom in good nick. Anyone know a trust worthy and honestly priced source i can score some selespeed bits?

Yes, but first take the clutch rod down to 27.7mm and see if it then engages 3rd when warmed up, also change the gearbox oil 75-90, 2L of.

Raxis, can I ask where you bought those sensors? I need one, or at least o-rings.. depending on new prices for the sensor.
