Place car in gear, chock front wheels, jack up the rear, supprot on stands and remove the wheels, release handbrake and remove handbrake handle cover, 1, Loosen the handbrake cable using the 13mm nut under the handle till the cable goes slack, don't allow the nut to come off or you'll start crying, 2, Remove the calipers and wind them in, also ensure the 3 handbrake cables move freely, grease up the rubber boots to allow the cables to move freely, 3, Remount the caliper, 4, Press the brake pedal till it goes firm and the disks are being braked when pressed and freewheel when released, 5, Tighten the 13mm by till it goes finger tight, then turn 6 flats with a 13mm spanner, ensure the arm on both callipers is resting against the stop, pul up the handle 1 click and ensure the arms have a gap between them and the stops, if this is achieved then release the cable and proceed to step 7, if not then go to step 6, 6, release the handbrake and wind the nut 6 more flats, check the arms are against the stops then raise one click and check for a gap, if present release the handle and goto step 7, if not then repeat this step, 7, raise the handle one click at a time and ensure that the handbrake increases resistance and braking of the disk with each click, you should not be able to turn the disk by hand at the third click, 8, release the cable again and ensure the arms are resting on the stops, B, refit handbrake handle cover, refit wheels, lower car, torque wheel bolts, apply handbrake. Alfa156Melb 9 Report post Posted August 5, 2012 Smaky, are you able to provide a full How To for rear rotor and pad replacement (156) please? Would you also replace the handbrake cable as a matter of course? or leave them if they are in good nick?
