  1. Gibot she uses very little fuel on long journeys, but I think it could be better on short trips. 2 years tracking for minor faults... I think I still I have a minor air leak, but don't know where... I hear a whistle around 4000 rpm. some days ago I was messing the air filter box, because the hose after was a bit loose. now it is alright. then reset the fault codes, gone for a drive, then p0170 lambda integrator high signal poped, meaning too much oxygen on lambda, but now appearing at 4000 rpm. rubber intake sleeve is new. MAF is old, but not sure it is the one. major service, belts done, spark plugs, "everything" new, 20000 km ago. Sometimes engine does not start (only noticed with warm engine). don't even hear spark ignition, but starter motor turns. starts at 2nd or 3rd try. think she could pull better too... anyway, 3rd and 4th gear reach their maximum speed, I think. p0130 and p1172 (TRA additive param too low), too, meaning injectors are being cut off too soon for some reason... p1172 fixed. new MAF, but also fixed some vacuum leaks.
  2. would a bad timing give poor fuel economy?
  3. Hi all! recently had my first fault in 2 years of ownage of a beautiful 156. window regulator clip broke like the one on pic (actually it was all torn to little pieces...), a pretty frequent thing, I'm afraid. good news is you can buy ONLY THE CLIPS intead of the whole regulator. bought this one for a few pounds on ebay. it is listed as "fiat doblo window regulator clip" but is exactly the same as the Alfa Romeo one for my M.Y.2000 156 (appart from colour). might be the same clip for a lot of other models/versions and you will save a lot of money. there are clips for the right and left doors (can't figure why FIAT opted for different clips...), but do not worry if you get the wrong side. you just have to cut the connection between the window security clip and the main clip as pointed, and will fit on any door. you just have to be very handy tightening the cables again. I did not succeed at that, and when the window regulator was already fitted, the cables got all out and smashed the inner motor pulley and got torn all around... so, bad news again, new elevator for me, as there are no complete repair kits as for other fiat models... then, not so bad news, again. you can buy a factory reconditioned regulator for half the price of a new one. you just have to give back your old elevator. I got one factory reconditioned, but looked ALL NEW, no signs of wear whatsoever! (sorry, no pics)
  4. I'm going after you if anything goes wrong...
  5. I want to replace the thermostat on my CF1 146 1.6, as well as changing all the coolant. any "special" procedure I should follow?
  6. sunny weather right now. rain and cold a few days ago...
  7. that's not the only fault on elearn... don't know any. I also have a DTE (I think) 156 manual, not sure if it is better. also on elearn, try other engine options or try the 147 elearn cd. you might find what you want...
  8. the "60" on 185/60 means 60% of tyre width will be tyre's height. that will be 0,60x185 = 111 mm. on a 195/60 would be 0,60x195=117mm since the alloy is the same, difference in diameter for the whole tyre would be 2x117-2x111 = 12mm overall diameter would be for the 185/60 R14 2x111 + rim diameter = 222mm + 14inchx25,4mm = 577,6mm for the 195/60 R14 2x117 + 14x25,4 = 589,6mm 12mm difference as well
  9. did not made myself clear, sorry. I'm trying to switch 185/60 R14 tyres for 195/60 R14 ones. that will increase width as well as diameter. anyone tried?
  10. maybe I'll try it to improve her looks. now she is with the originals 185mm thread tyres. I know it will increase wheel diameter, but I think it's just enough to correct the 2-3% error I get on speedo. anyone tried? what's your feedback?
  11. mine has the same front black painted grill, but with the original badge and no mesh. everyday I look at her and say to myself "what a gourgeous and mean car I have" in your place I would remove the mesh and go back to the black badge...
  12. would be easier for you to catch a plain to Portugal and have a look at her
  13. thought that if the camlocks can fit the cams then the timing is right...
  14. I have the camlocks. Can I check the timing with them?
  15. and if the timing is not right? is it possible to check it via OBD2 cable and software?
  16. this one is for Smaky a mechanic told me he could change the twinspark cambelt without using the alfa romeo camlock tool. is that possible maintaining correct timing? are there any general cam locking tools? thanks!
  17. so, the failure is down to a bad job or a VERY OLD belt/tensioner, no? I recall an episode with a 146 of yours that the belt lasted over 120 kmiles! was that really true?
  18. just curious. what is the lowest mileage you got to know from a cambelt failure on a Twin Spark engine?
  19. thanks for all the replies. I'll leave it alone, then!
