*** ENGINE OIL *** it's critical !!!

Recommended Posts

Never let your engine oil dip below the bottom mark on the stick.

Below is an engine I lifted out this weekend to salvage the shell (if anyone wants a saloon shell then it's yours, RUST FREE).

If you do allow the oil to dip down for too long then don't whinge when this happens .....

My personal opinion is that as long as you start and run it reguarly then you would be wasting time and money, but such low milage would say to me that it's a once a month car and that is harder on the engine as between every run the components within will dry off of oil and this is when the damage occurs, the worst thing to use in this case is Magnatec, its magnetic molecules do cling to the steel parts, but they also attact the debris that floats in the oil and that gets through the filter and this can cause more damage to the bearing parts...crank, cams, conrods/gudeon pins for example.

Though either way with an engine doing so little milage I'd swap to 10W-60 Fully Synth (I personally like Valvoline oils) and change the oil and filter once a year.

If it's used daily then I'd stick to 10w-40 Semi synth and just drop to an annual change.

What would your advice be on tuned vehicles? I always hear that because it is tuned you should change the oil more frequently.

Heavily modified then yes I'd consider dropping it to 6000 miles/12 months as modified cars are harder on the lubes when they are running but when parked it's just going to degrade at the same rate.
