My Whistling 156 JTS...

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys!

I'm loving my 156 2.0 JTS, but she's having a moan...

On startup, I hear a 'whistling' sound from the engine, and she hunts for a few seconds. If I drive away immediately, she's a bit 'jerky' in first and second. 60 seconds later, she's fine, although, on occasion she's a bit jerky in fourth...

I haven't tried a throttle reset yet. Not sure if it's appropriate...

Oil consumption seems a bit excessive (to be honest, it's often hard to read the dipstick...).

Any thoughts please?

I also have a low 'humming' sound that is detailed in the Suspension/Brakes section.

Thanks!

Daff.

New car I see, well I'd start by pluging in the laptop (as usual) to see if there are any codes for the lumpyness, the whistling is probably a belt idler/tensioner on the Aux side.

But the first thing you dould try is to pull out the coil pascks and look for oil down the holes, if there is clean it out as best you can and also from the coil leads too. Also check the intake for splits and ensure all plugs are on properly, we know what the old 1.6 use to do to you.

I finally had a day off when I could check what Alex suggested.

Yep, there was oil in the spark plug wells... I've cleaned it up as best I can.

Where might the problem be guys?

Daff.
