  1. after a lot of troubleshooting, the cause was a wornout layshaft bearing...
  2. I hav changed the clutch speed sensor on my 159, but the gear still keeps dropping to N at slow speed... the same VDC error msg is there. looks like the car is still sensing diff in wheel speed or they are not talking to each other

Hi Smaky, loose heatshield u mean the exhaust heatshield rite? this one? so i us ask my mechanic to tighen? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-JTS-Exhaust-Heat-Shield-/281027137229?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item416e85cecd but i cant seem to find the rear anti roll bar bush online. i can only find the front ones.. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item33872b2224 http://www.ebay.co.u...3dcac4#shpCntId THANK YOU!!
  4. Smaky, my bad... it's the clutch speed sensor u asked me to change and not the wheel speed sensor. can u pls help me confirm this is the correct park before i place my order? and where is the location of this clutch speed sensor? how hard to chg it? is it a 10 mins job? or require alot more efforts? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-ROMEO-159-SALOON-2-2-JTS-2005-TO-2011-RPM-SPEED-SENSOR-9-0537-/181218986783?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AAlfa+Romeo&hash=item2a317e4b1f once again, thank you very very very much!!
  5. so loose hearshield or ARB bushes can be affected by amt of fuel in tank to make the rattling noise. many worshops do not want to troubleshoot my prob bcos they say is too time consuming and may end up with no fault found.. sighs...
  6. then what shd i do? I was tinking if the wheel speed sensor is easy to change, since it is inexpensive, i jus change it and see how.
  7. its a 159 saloon. the rattling sound is something lie metal hitting agst each other, when car goes over uneven road, there will be like "dit dit dit" or"dit dit dit dit" sound...
  8. how much is the wheel bearing? so shall I chg the wheel speed sensor firstsince its abt 40 pounds? where is the location? hard to chg? and is it no 1 or no 2? 1) http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181219451776 2) http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/OPEL-ASTRA-H-1-6-FROM-2004-RPM-SPEED-SENSOR-9-0537-/181218986419?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a317e49b3#shpCntId Thank you!
  9. Hi Smaky, I was able to live with this problem previosuly bcos its not so freq. Now it comes back quite often and i am goin to chg the wheel speed sensor u recommended. how hard is it to change this wheel speed sensor on 159? where is the location? I found 2 listings on ebay that says Alfa Romeo 55185789, the part number u provided: 1) http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181219451776 2) http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/OPEL-ASTRA-H-1-6-FROM-2004-RPM-SPEED-SENSOR-9-0537-/181218986419?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a317e49b3#shpCntId no 2 is cheaper. I can buy either one of these? Thank you very very very much!
  10. I have this rattling sound from the boot area for quite some time already. its very irritating and it will come on when i go pass uneven road, humps etc... and i realise the sound comes from slightly different locations at different times. I adjusted and tightened almost everything, stuffed papers n tshirts on the top of the boot area etc but cant solve the problem. then i realised that when my petrol is abt less than half full, this rattling sound will disappear. anyone know why is it like this? any experience pls? thank you!
  11. how to cfm is this the root of the prob? i dun tink the workshop has ready stock for this. need to specially order.. Is it hard to chg? I tried to find this sensor from the websites that sells Alfa parts but all dont hav..
  12. thank you Smaky for the fast reply. i checked my receipt, the item replaced was "selespeed clutch bearing". my clutch was changed abt 23000km ago. "Anyway, this is most likely a setup issue,in that the clutch rod length is too short and not disengaging the clutch correctly and this is preventing the correct selection of the gears. " So can this be solved by adjusting using the examiner? Is this a common thing? not sure if my mechanice will know.. thnx!
  13. Hi all, My Alfa is a 159 selespeed 2007. Sometimes when i drive at low speed in Manual mode,(can be when reducing speed to stop at traffic light (gear 2 or 3), or sometimes accelerating at gear 1), the gear will automatically disenage and show N on the display. I will move the gear stick to N and back to gear 1 and gear engages. On some occasions, the check gearbox light also came on when it dropped to N, and after i moved the stick back to 1, the msg disappeared. I have this problem for more than 8 months already. recently this dropping of gear to N happens more frequently. I have changed the slave cylinder, accumulator and pump, problem is still there. When i went to my workshop recently, there was VDC error msg. the mechanic told me that the car might sense diff in wheel spd and hence as precaution, will disengage the gear and drop back to N. however he said he cant do anything abt it as well. jus have to move gear stick to N and back to 1. His advice is when this happens, drive in auto mode D and let the computer reset and then drive in manual mode again. anyone have same experience? any advice pls? thank you very much!
  14. selespeed clutch bearing (Slave cylinder) fail and selespeed actuator clutch pump oil seal broken. fnally solved the issue... thnx alot Smaky!! really really a BIG BIG THANK YOU!
  15. the codes are P2908, not sure abt the other one. btw, the gears are able to engage when the engine is not started. i hav towed the car to another workshop that specialises in Alfa for 2nd opinion... thnx once again! happy new year!
  16. hi smacky, the workshop told me that the fault code 2908 is power chain control module PCM. there is also another fault code that points to no signal to gearbox. so they determine that the ECU is faulty and need to change. This is goin to be a big ticket problem..
  17. Battery n accumulator was changed 3 mths ago. Pump 2 days ago. Clutch was changed 1.5 yrs n abt 17000 km ago. Is it true that if drive using sports mode the clutch will wear faster? I drove in sports mode for abt 8 mths and 8000km But I dun tink I heard any grinding noise from the clutch recently. yes, the car is used for city driving. if it is only the first warning of my clutch wearing out, why is it that the fault code cant be cleared and the check gearbox message is still there after clearing the faults. Thank you very much for the reply!
  18. The car is 6 yrs old. Done 76000km Selespeed accumulator was changed 3 mths ago The hyd fluid is gd. No leakage of any fluid
  19. Hi all, I jus changed my selespeed pump n brake switch 2 days ago and all is fine. Then today while I was slowing down at traffic light the gear suddenly dropped to neutral n I couldn't engage any gear at all. and check gearbox message appeared. I tried to restart car n still same. Can't engage reverse or gear 1. Car was towed to workshop. Fault code is P2908 clutch sub-system n P0856 VDC Message from CAN. Tried to clear fault but after starting car, check gearbox msg is still there n still can't engage car. There was also no leak n selespeed pump seems to be working as I can hear the high pitch sound of the pump pressurizing. Anyone help pls..,, especially smacky Thank you very much!
