  1. on MES, F7 - Reset self adapt param and idle actuator just after this TRA and DTV self adapt param should reset to 0, FRA to 1,000. (EDIT: DTV value after reset was wrong) still you have to do the "90 second crap" after, like Smaky says , to recalibrate the idle actiuator. 90 second key on MAR position (before ignition) 90 second key off (but key still in) start the engine and let it idle for 10 min without touching the pedal 90 second thing is criticall. repeat procedure if you think it didn't do anything. EDIT: well, like Smaky just posted (embarased)
  2. I'm shocked! that's new to me!!!always thought they were all bosch and NTK could eventually replace. thanks, thanks!
  3. well, if the lambda is not bosch, unplug it, and try running the car. check if she gets better. it's a very easy task. black connector next to the white one on back of engine bay. that's my last drop
  4. yes, damn them! they shouldn't be reading this but still I'm deffying their wisdom, and drive a couple of miles more this way I'll keep you posted
  5. ok. back will go then. before this, I had it turned upwards, but to the right, next to the battery... did this because some had issues with the MAF connector being damaged with the engine heat...
  6. top Smaky guide here too http://www.alfadriver.com/forum/index.php/topic/1510-guide-breather-valve-replacement/
  7. HI Norlig! the valve Gibot is refering to is the one on this Gazza's article, the oil separator valve or crankcase breather valve, shown on the first 3 pictures. http://greenserpent..../idle_saga.html the coil should be at least 1 cm long. I also checked mine, gave it a cleaning, and streched it a bit, about 2 mm longer, just enough to make sure valve closes completely. be carefull not to lose any valve parts. they are small and easy to fall into the engine bay. you don't need to take off the hose clip to do this check, just unclip the end of the valve from the intake manifold.
  8. if that time comes, that's when I'll put it back in place
  9. thanks northenbstard K9d, I was thinking about that as soon as I done this. I'll probably be rotating the Maf a bit more next to the battery, but the rubber tube is not as thermal conductive as engine metal, also hot air goes upward and gets stuck up in the engine bay, so, it should be cooler this way...
  10. just fitted MAF up side down to avoid high temps from the engine. doesn't seem to afect driving. what are your thoughts?... https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing
  11. before I forget, thank you very much, Smaky! somewhat relived, at least it is not something needed for the alfie to run...
  12. sorry for bringing the subject back in public, but as you surely know, you were a big loss to the forum, and I never understood why. about the thread topic, well, it's really a shame, cause it was refilled not 3 months ago when it had totally new shockers... and the people in charge were supposed to check the leak first... today just spent a lot a money fixing an alternator and a power steering hose leak and, just after, spoted this... is it a diy job? (I guess not...)
  13. shouldn't the picure be public? but ok. I already was on a workaround. this should do it https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B95bbIoEn5n1VEhoVENTbi0wSG8/edit?usp=sharing&pli=1 about AO, couldn't you just register with another username, or you think they just don't deserve it?
  14. Good advice LJ! Yes Smaky! please don't get me banned for this http://www.alfaowner...50&d=1381938630
  15. as I am posting this, I think I know what the problem is... it's a viscous green liquid forming beneath the battery on my 146... probably coolant leak. what do you think? p.s.: how do you upload images???
  16. btw Smaky, probably were your posts a long time ago on AO saying that you never had to change a cam sensor on a p1653 fault code that lead me to nail this fault. thanks for all the helpfull posts of yours and many other helpfull alfa romeo enthusiasts!
  17. think I found it http://www.chinacart...h-in-september/ or better http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trumpchi
  18. That's interesting stuff. How do they call that 166 replica there? and where could I check that part on the web?
  19. I'm aware of that, Smaky. Curiously the top one (on my older 146) is leaking all over the place and the one at the bottom (on my younger 156) has not leaked a drop, the 1st one is working properly, the 2nd has failed... Intriguing why Alfa seem to have returned to the oldest solenoid design... Thanks everyone!
  20. Hi people! I want to replace my 156 variator control valve, but I'm confused about which version to buy... I know they are compatible, but I want to buy the most recent version. My '97 146 has the top version, my '00 156 has the under version, but I'm seeing the latest TS engined alfas on ebay with the top version (???) My question is, which is the latest version of the variator or which version and m.y. is yours?
  21. sure. just have to give the 156 a proper cleaning
  22. and glad to see familiar and "long time no see" usernames here
  23. Hi! I'm from and in Portugal, Aveiro city. Have some family and friends living in London... I'm a Physics and Chemistry teacher. I also love photography, listen to music, cooking, eating, drinking, and fix things... Got to know this forum just minutes ago on an alfaowner.com post :D I'm driving a 146 1.6 TS and a 156 1.8 TS. The 156 was supposed to replace the 146, but since the 146 is mechanically 100%, I decided to keep both and run as many miles as I can on her. Bought my first Alfa Romeo (146) after my 1988 Opel Kadett got hit from behind. My dad always told me "don't ever buy FIAT, LANCIA or ALFA!!!", and, believe or not, we stop talking to each other for some time because of that... Well, I was looking for a cheap car, and the 146 was much cheaper than an Astra, very practical, stylish and powerfull! I guess I just lost a bit of my mind and fell in love with alfas for at least 7 years now... My dream car is a 156 GTA, but since I got a 156 1.8 TS I'm really pleased and forgot about it. Also would not mind owning a 4C I'm hoping to get some help here and help other alfisti too
