you could carry on with this job and show us how to clean an engine bay as dirty as this one...

thinking of doing the same to my 156 1.8 TS too. might be just replacing the gear. starting fails some times. you can hear the engine turning and firing, then it fails and you can only hear the starter motor spinning on its own.
is it an easier job by also removing the intake manifold?

Update. p1653 fault code returned intermittently. opted to completely remove the soldier caps on top of the solenoid, rubbed a bit to remove oxidized metal, and soldered all back together. no problems now. sorry, forgot to take pictures...

yeah. it was greased all around while this happened. this time just sprayed some multipurpose lube.

just an update. days ago knew that these cars have to replace the DPF at 120 000 km as part of the regular scheduled maintenance.
that hasn't been done. about 50 000 km later, regeneration at the workshop, months later, this.

bought a generic fuel hose. the hose should be 12 mm in internal diameter. only sizes available were 13 mm and 10 mm. fitted the 10 mm diameter one. it is so tight it doesn't need any hose clips

Hi!
Have to change the breather hose (in link below )as the one on my 156 has rotted and collapsed.
Thinking of not buying the soft rubber OEM one, as they are very expensive and don't last forever, but buying a regular more rigid hose with the same dimensions. Will I have any problems?

also found this recall to address a issue that could cause a runaway.
the fix is a ECM upgrade. do you think it would be enough?

engine oil was actually above max level. could the car be regenerating the DPF more frequently while driving in the past 6 months or so, gradually increasing oil level, and then the final «kaput». could a blocked crankcase breather help this?

thanks for all the info, Alex! will reply with full report in next days. we are just greatly disappointed with a car bought new and with impeccable maintenance just turned into scrap in a couple of minutes...

turbo was the first thing that occurred to me. but mechanic said oil level was ok by the end of the runaway.
read that in regen cycle, some diesel could run trough piston rings into the engine block and dilute the engine oil, raising the oil level...
the engine in question the 1.6L, PSA or Ford sourced...
could a blown head gasket cause the same?

happened to me driving the misses volvo c30...
hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but the mechanic said it could be a caused by a recent DPF regeneration, engine oil level getting high, and getting into the intake... this is all new to me. if I knew what to do at the time... regrets, regrets...

What I still don't get is that on 16 valve TS engines, at least on CF1 and CF2, both sparks fire at the same time on both power and exhaust strokes, and then the center spark would be enough to do the job you are mentioning, I think. still skeptic about the TS technology on 16 V engines...

weren't the jts engines updated by 2004 and got better? it is a big a shame, because it really looks good on paper (efficiency, power and low end torque).

I'm just saying this because it looks like this way I will be kind off guessing where the starter motor bolts are and won't have much space to fit my hands.
is it worth the extra work to take out the manifold or just do it the simpler way?
