  1. OK Thanks.

Would be better to get sorted sooner rather than later as the engine & box should be going back in within the next couple of weeks and it's much easier to do with them out. So it's looking like a Danish import job.

Going to change the troublesome brake pipes at the same time.

  2. I had a 1998 600 Diesel as a company car for 3 years and 180,000 miles and it never let me down and apart from having one of those silly gearboxes that need 3 pedles i loved it.

Then they decided to 'upgrade' to a VW Passat TDI. The rover was better than the VW in every way.

At 14 months old and 61,000 miles (1000 out of warrenty) the flywheel decided to explode and demolish the gearbox and parts of the engine.

Despite it being just over a year old, with full service history VW would not even offer a discount on the repairs, let alone a warrenty claim.

Got it repaired at a Skoda dealer in the end. (same parts and half the labour charge)

and that ladies and gentlemen is why i will never buy another VW.

  3. Done mine, although it's a Twin Spark so there are a few small differences but basicly not much different to any other front wheel drive apart from setting up the clutch rod after, and although i'm a half decent home mechanic i'm not a proffesional and i found it pretty straightforward so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you hang around on here for a bit Smaky will be sure to come along, He's the selespeed guru and give you much more info.

  4. Thanks Smaky but i'm miles away from you, not that i think that would put you off.

Not too much left to do now

    Engine back together & in

    Front suspension back together

    Rear Suspension back together

    front body panels back on.

    Sounds worse than it is.

    Main hold up is money.

However if i have any teething probs when mobile again i may well pop over.

    Thanks again.
