  1. Hi All,

I have a fair amount of Alfa parts in the garage to clear and thought I'd offer them here before doing the eBay thing.

Everything is for a 2003 pre facelift 147 2.0 5 door selespeed (lusso, dark blue, unmarked exterior, full unmarked leather, clutch <2 years, 100k with full documents for 6k oil service regime and belts done on the button) or Alfa's that shares parts with it. The car will also go when I find the ideal Saab I'm after.

New items still in packaging - Original / Birth / Eicher and Pagid brakes:

    Anti Roll Bar

    Radiator

    Front drop links x 2 set (4)

    Front brake discs x 2

    Rear brake discs x 2

Front brake pads x 2 sets

Rear brake pads x 1 set

    Front wheel bearing x 2

    Hub bolts x 2

    Spark plug set (8)

    Oil Filters x 5

    Pollen filter x 1 (2 part set)

    Air Filter x 1

Inner front cv joint x 2

Outer front CV joint x 1

    Brake switch x 1

    Selespeed relay x 1

    Exhaust rubber hanger x 1

    Used parts:

16 inch selespeed alloys with tyres x 4 (legal but don't get them for the tyres)

    16 inch selespeed alloys - no tyres x 2

Front full suspension hubs x 2

Front window regulators x 2 (both sides)

Radiator and fan assembly x 1

Cooling hoses full set x 1

I'd like if a fellow Alfa owner fancied the lot and collected from Croydon, individuals items were collected and will post at cost if going to good homes.

Any interest parts or the car shortly (August) reply or drop me a pm.

    Ant

  2. What can I say -

On this occasion Smaky was incorrect and it took him actually looking (Shock horror and he's somewhat slipping) to get the right diagnosis.

Faulty coil pack and oil in plugs - all of 15 / 30 minutes work to rectify and being Smaky, noticed an issue with washer tubing so fixed at the same time, clutch rod adjustment as about year since fitting and a recalibration.

Carlsberg don't make Alfa Mechanics but if they did - Smaky would be one.

  3. Guys,

She's playing up and I have some initial thoughts and would be grateful for any input your experiences can offer.

Car - 2003 2.0 Selespeed 80K, all belts, services and ancillaries up to date

    Background:

Car is on a one year old clutch but has not had a calibration or rod length check since last then - this is first most in my thinking as root cause but happy to hear alternative theories based on experiences

    Symptoms:

Occasional throbbing vibration when idling - increasing

MCF warning when changing up past third - both when manually done and auto, these are coming and going as gears are changed up but not down

Newest - Burning smell this morning (assumption clutch is now lunching itself?)

All levels - Selespeed, Gearbox and power steering etc good and no loss noticed

    Thoughts:

Ruled out - slave collapse as gearing still available

Clutch rod - not correct or calibrating and as such causing clutch issue and has now moved to creating greater problems

Clutch faulty / wearing out - although the fact it's one year old makes me feel this is unlikely, but a consequence of the clutch rod being out

Possibly Gearbox gone - not really thinking this as she functions in all gears with or without MCF

    warning

    Actions:

Get her on Alfa Diag and check clutch rod length

Remove gearbox and check clutch condition - Can I do this with a scope? or will it have to be stripped down just to see?

Replace gearbox, clutch as absolutely last resort - and anticipate cost at £500 / 650 which is not something I'm wanting to do on a whim.

    Help needed:

Alfa diag on PC - Anyone local to Norbury South London who can do a diag in the next few days (I'll be seeking to do this regardless before anything else but don't have a PC (Mac User) to run it easily at hand)

Any other items I should be checking before I start dismantling or calling in the cavalry? ideally seeking to limit cost exposure and the easiest elimination checks known would be of great benefit.

    And finally:

Local recommendations for if heavy work is going to needed?

    Cheers and thanks in advance

    Anthony

  4. It will still be connected to the joining plate as was but on the vertical to the original connector will be a replacement section connected in (this also has space to be secured to the joining plate). That's not a good description but should clarify somewhat.

Other than cost of specialist tool (ouch!) the job should indeed be an easy one (famous last words) - i'll waxoyl the replaced section, refill the brake fluid, bleed the brakes and back on the road.

It's always use the right tool, get the job done properly, the big downside is she's off the road until I get the bits delivered.

But as ever it is what it is.

  5. Guys,

Without resorting to saying a friend has an issue - I have an embarrassing one that I can't figure out.

Whilst changing over a brake caliper and hose - the pipe connector into the hose has sheared off.

Any experiences of this and how to resolve it would be very gratefully received.

    thanks in advance

  6. The real rub - I went genuine which to me includes the boxes et al as a treat hence happily paying over the odds, if your selling OEM but non branded all good.

Just as I often purchase items that are OEM, but then I'm buying on price / value.

This was a conscious decision to pay other the odds for the genuine (boxed and all) item. I did not receive that and would never just give someone £50 if I can get the same elsewhere.

It was not a like for like as I requested genuine (not OEM) - got OEM at above the going rate for OEM.

  7. Morgan / Biggy or other forum users - do you also know a supplier who is regularly a safe bet for supply of any other key items?

Or for that matter anything - for example I get oil and pollen filters from HWM in Walton on Thames - without delivery they are cheaper than ECP.

I use camel track for Amazon oil prices and that brings 10w40 (everyday stuff) down to £8 for 5litres about 3 times a year.

    Any other examples appreciated.

  8. Biggy - that's kinda the main issue in a nutshell - I asked specifically for pricing on genuine - got Pagid at greater cost than elsewhere.

Morgan - I've actually used quite on a quite a few cars without any cause for complaint.

But in this case - I could have saved my £40 - £50 by choosing Pagid from ECP, Carparts4less, buypartsby etc.

I feel slightly aggrieved as a dealer supplying genuine - should and I'm happy to be corrected send me my Ricardo boxed stuff. I am perfectly able to select Pagid on price point from any supplier and keep the cash I worked hard for in my pocket.

In the scheme of things - it's a minor but leaves a bad taste about the suppliers word and take on genuine.

  9. Fellow Alfa drivers,

In the quest to keep her in top shape - parts are often required.

This month it was a brake refresh and I checked all the usual suspects:

    Alfaworkshop

    Carparts4less

    Western Saab and alfa

    Buypartsby

    Shop4parts

    Partsworld-uk

    EB Spares

    Veloces

    Autolusso

    Et al

And decided I'd treat her to genuine Alfa if the price was right - got the price and ordered £130 (front disc's pads and rears).

So I was slightly surprised when Pagid stuff arrived - could of got it considerably cheaper from elsewhere as my understanding Pagid in any form is not genuine Alfa.

I should also mention that finding what I thought was the best price was not a quick search. So this leads to two questions:

1: Does anyone have a clear go to place for certain equipment (or could we pull one together)?

2: What course of action would you take over the Pagid sold as genuine Alfa situation (I've emailed yesterday evening about it and am awaiting a reply)

  10. I have a fully working (touch wood), completely factory standard 2003 Alfa 147, 5 door, 2.0 selespeed - that if I do say myself is well maintained, pretty pristine bodywork and an unmarked interior.

Looking on the usual suspect sites - find very few of the same for sale (so replacement like for like would appear to cost a premium over supposed trade book valuations).

So how can I make sure that if I need to make a claim - I don't end up getting less than it would cost to replace?

She's young by classic policy standards, old by parkers valuations. Is this something you guys would be able to handle?

  11. Hi all,

Got the dreaded insurance renewal coming up - and the question is about market value.

So how can I make sure that if I need to make a claim - I don't end up getting a pitiful amount?

Be good the forums thought or if any else has solved a similar problem.
