The Obligatory 'What Next?' Thread

Recommended Posts

Team,

The BMW 323i shall be departing me on 13/07/2011, sad times I know, but as the title suggest, what next????

Want to spend about £2000-ish on another car but not sure what to get. I want a UK spec car so the insurance isn't too bad, but other than that not really fussed. Practicality doesn't matter as I only work about 10 miles away from home and have a Mondeo as well of the wifes.

Ideally after something that looks great and goes like stink. Was considering another GTV V6 as I've not had an Alfa in years and noticed the GTV V6 and 166 Super V6 cars seemed to have dropped quite a bit toward my price range now.

So far the cars that I've come up with in my budget are:

Alfa Romeo 166 Super

Alfa Romeo GTV V6

Jaguar XJS 4.0i Facelift

VW Corrado

BMW E46 328i Saloon

There's a few others but they are out of budget. Can anyone give me some ideas of a car that's quick, looks good, and that's about it, within budget?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is only one car for me: GTV v6

I can't wait to get back in to one as soon as I can afford it. There's a huge difference between a sports coupe and a saloon. The GTV is a very, very special car. I bet if you test drive one you'll by one.

The only other one on the list for me would be a Corrado, but only if I could afford two :D

Darren,

Here's my two pence on your choices:

Alfa Romeo 166 Super - I had a 166 V6. Brilliant car. Highly recommended.

Alfa Romeo GTV V6 - I would definitely have one of these if I didn't need 4 seats.

Jaguar XJS 4.0i Facelift - Thirsty old barge, go for it if you can a) afford the fuel and B) find one that isn't rotten as a pear underneath.

VW Corrado - Nice bit of old-school 'Dubbing, but for me, a bit too old, design-wise.

BMW E46 328i Saloon - Relentlessly competent, but a tad ordinary by comparison to your other options. Nice and quick, though. The "sensible" choice on the list.

Got any others you're looking at?

This may be a bit left field, but how about a

156 SW 2.4 10v, in a lovely Black a snip at £2k

Out of your list it would be GTV or Corrado

other than that something big and Japanese Toyota Supra or similar.

Or see my Ford Puma thread..

If you have owned an MGF you won't find a Puma girly at all.

I would keep it, as it is such a great drivers car, only we can't justify two cars, and the Puma is a bit too small for dad to day use with a child.

How about a 540 BMW?

4.0 or 4.4 V8, loadsa grunt, toys and space.

Near as damn it an M5, but without the fuss and increased costs.

E39 4.4 £1800 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-BMW-540I ... 2c5e63b7d5

or old school E34 4.0 for a grand? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINT-BMW-540i ... 1c1dd5373a
