K9d 108 Report post Posted February 14, 2014 Kathy went to start the 156 a few days ago and then came back telling me it wouldn't start, I went out the put the key in and noticed the code light was staying on. Tried the other key we have and it was fine, they have both worked in the past. Neither key has a battery in as the remote locking is screwed up and the alarm goes off randomly. Smaky 73 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 Check the fuse (it's in the 3 rows above the main fusebox), check the connections are good to the code box, check the ECU connections are good, check the earth is tight next to the ECU, replace car batery. K9d 108 Report post Posted February 15, 2014 Its only one of the keys the other one works fine, so I'm thinking a key issue not a car issue. Would the fact the keys have no batteries in have an effect ?
Smaky 73 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 None at all.
K9d 108 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Cheers, will just have to hope the good key doesn't go south.
Smaky 73 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 believe it or not if one key is fine and another plays up occasionally then it is normally the aerial around the barrel which is the problem.
K9d 108 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 Ahh, I'm sure I've read that some people take the code chip out of the key and tape it to the steering column so that either key will then work.
Smaky 73 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 That can be done. But if the aerial is the problem then it will soon completely pack in.
K9d 108 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 Not too soon I hope, want to get to 200,000 miles got about 7,500 to go. If the aerial does pack up is it an easy fix?
