Upgrading My Gqv

Recommended Posts

Thought i'd start a thread on here about my Giulietta QV as i'm starting to do a few mods to it. I dropped it off earlier today to get things started on it and the 1st couple of bits i'm having done are a custom remap and a new exhaust system put on the car. I'm getting the work done at an Alfa specialist in watford called ProAlfa -Proalfa | Italian Car Specialist in Watford Hertfordshire They are a great bunch of guy's and Chris & Fred are very knowledgable and helpful, its also very handy them being a 5 minute drive from home :D

I started talking to them about stuff i could do to it at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago when a few of us went to watch the last Alfa race of the year (they look after a diesel GT and also a Punto which both done really well) and what started off as a few ideas has now turned into me making the decision to make a start on modding it to see what it can be like with a few changes.

I haven't got a timescale of when i want it all done but i've got a few ideas i want to do to it but it depends on time/money i get spare. Not sure when i will have the car back after the 1st bit of work as i said no rush (i only use it at weekends) so hopefully over the next few days i will be able to update this with some more details and photo's of what has been done so far.

Can't wait to get it back already :D

There's a dyno place in the unit next door so anything that gets done can easily be checked to see if its any better/worse by doing certain things :)

I'll put some pics up and the dyno printouts for it when i get chance but i've got a feeling im going to be out driving all this weekend :D Its a great job from Fred and the exhaust looks and sounds great

picked it up today and its amazing :D 301.7bhp & 338.6ft-lb torque :D its now a stupidly quick car and big thanks to Chris and Fred for doing what they have done to get it like it is. Fred did say theres more to get from it but as the intake temperature was getting high he cut it back to keep it safe so will have to look at a big intercooler for it or WMI to bring them down a bit but for now its more than enough

Got some but not sorted them out yet. I think long term it needs silencing a bit as its quite loud at the moment  will leave it for a bit though i think & try & drive it quietly

Don't want to put a dampener on your parade here but I've just got back in from assisting our local AA guy with a GQV which had been remapped by the same mob, the guy was telling us about how they got 300 horses out of it and that the pick up was incredible, the problem is that he now needs a new engine as all those horses decided that they didn't want to stay in that stable and decided to deposit themselves all down the A40, 200 yards of conrod, piston, pipework, turbo, oil and coolant before I got to the car gave me a good idea that this was going to be trailered away. I think you've guessed the conclusion.... the internals are not rated for this power, Alfa have washed their hands of him (he invalidated ANY warranty by having the remap done) and I have yet to find out if he's getting onto PA as remap work is not warranted because of the variables. Hope that cheers you up.

Smaky, I think there is a missunderstanding on your reply.

Because pro alfa only mapped one GQV and that will be at Ace Cafe tonight! So you more than welcome to pop down and see it.

On the other hand, a mapped engine can blow up just by having the timing mapped wrong and not by how much power it makes...

BTW have you got any pictures of the debris left on the A40?

Anymore info on that? Just wondered because mine was the 1st & only GQV they have done this work too & i wasn't on the A40 today. I can't really see there being enough time for all that to happen as i picked my car up saturday, if the owner of the car phoned up on monday they wouldn't have started until tuesday. A day to build & fit the exhaust, a day to map it so thats tuesday & wednesday taken care of. Not sure how quickly it can get towed to the nearest dealership (motor village i think?) then for somebody from Alfa to have a look at it & for the owner to be told tough shit but id guess more than a morning. Even if they had a week free to do the work its still pushing it to get all that to happen in that space of time so are you sure it was ProAlfa who supposedly done it? I know they have been really busy all week & i saw chris was still fitting the gearbox to a GTV at 6pm tonight as the clutch didn't turn up until really late. Also all their work, including remaps, is covered by warranty.

There is more info, I've contacted the guy again and he's corrected one little fact, it was Angel Tuning. I appologise for the misinformation there but either way I believe it still stands that the internals are not up to the job with this power hike.

I still think that this engine is good for more than 300hp, and I still think that the one that you saw on the A40 could have been the timing tables on the map that were done wrong and caused it to go...

Funny that angel tuning dont list the 1750 engine on their website :Sigh:
