Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 Wanting to know how much VW are charging for the new version of my car, I went on their online configurator. A few minutes of options box-ticking later, I came up with the following... For a frigging Golf! I invite others to post up screen grabs of online car configurators with all the options ticked. twisted_pr 16 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 £9,750 of options? What on earth did you select? Moleskin seats? A diamond encrusted gear knob? A weekly pass to the local escort service?
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 In the village where I work there's a KIA garage, they have a saloon in the window with a price ticket of £26,000. For a fucking KIA
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 £9,750 of options? What on earth did you select? Moleskin seats? A diamond encrusted gear knob? A weekly pass to the local escort service? Morgan's already got that last option covered.
milowokie 13 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 Just got a five-door 2.0 diesel Escort Focus to £30k.
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 Erm, please Sir how do you get a screen grab ?
twisted_pr 16 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 Morgan's already got that last option covered. Cos let's face it, at £37k for a Golf they're screwing you, so why not return the favour? Erm, please Sir how do you get a screen grab ? In the absence of a screen grabbing program you can press the otherwise completely useless "Print Screen" button to copy a snapshot of your entire screen to the clipboard, then paste it into Paint/Photoshop etc, crop and save it as a jpeg then post it in the normal way. A bit of a faff I grant you.
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 That sounds too much like hard work, so I got a Giulietta to £33,800, that's with the 235bhp 1750 engine, 8c paint and horseshoe alloys.
milowokie 13 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 Had a look at the Kia site, there's a Cee'd on the main page (next to the prices from £13k) for just shy of £20k. £20k for Top Gear's reasonably priced car. http://www.kia.co.uk/new-cars/range/mid-sized-cars/new-ceed.aspx WARNING!! Their site is far to noisy, makes beeps, bangs and gongs when you move your mouse/pointer over a picture link.
LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 That volvo i had as a courtesy car was around £40k,i worked out how much my Mito was & i think thats was 22k new. i dont think i'll ever buy a brand new car as you lose so much money. Id rather buy a 1-2 year old car & let someone else get hit with the shitty stick we call depreciation
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 I like to buy mine about 10 years old, but fortunately I'm not a million miles from Smaky, although the bugger did move further away, but I found him
milowokie 13 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 Waiting for a 3.2 166 to depreciate into my price range. (and a SAAB 9-5 Aero 2.8T V6 XWD)
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 I'm waiting for fuel prices to come down so I can afford to run my 166, think it may be a long wait.
divadiva 15 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 My BMW 320 coupe SE was over 30 grand - but actually looked it! That was in my Princess days......*sigh*
milowokie 13 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 How about a Wolseley Wedge or Austin Ambassador? http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/cars/austin-morris/princessambassador/the-cars-princessambassador-development-history/ Note: Morgan may like to view the Rover Sterling Coupe section. http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/cars/rover/800/the-cars-rover-800-coupe/

WTI 59 Report post Posted January 28, 2013 I mean look at the bloody thing in Morgans first post. And to think we moan about the Giullietta looks wise
Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 The fact you can stack on £10k's worth of options is nuts! There was stuff like "communications pack", "winter pack", "summer pack", "styling pack" and other such guff. I ticked ALL the boxes for the purposes of this exercise. Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 I've just got a Hyundai i30 Tourer up to £21,645 on the Hyundai website. And there wasn't even an option for leather interior.
LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 With the new smart car (might be all new mercs, im not sure) power steering cones as an optional extra
Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 Must only be the Smart car... I can't imagine an E-Class without power steering!
K9d 108 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 I had a quick look on Autotrader to see what could be bought for the same money as a Golf. Not really my type of car,m but I bet the extras are great, fuel economy may be a little worse than the Golf. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201230479987151/sort/default/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/price-from/25000/price-to/35000/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/radius/1501/page/230/postcode/ba140ds?logcode=p
Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 It staggers me that people spend so much on specced-up new cars. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they do... So I can scoop them up 10 years later for next to nothing.
Morgan 46 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 As for the relative fuel economy figures: Bentley Continental GT 6.0 W12 - 15mpg VW Golf GTD 2.0 TDi DSG - 65mpg But then, if you're in the market for a Bentley, you ain't bothered about the cost of fuel. K9d 108 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 How about this for an overpriced motor. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201301225012509/sort/default/usedcars/price-from/25000/make/alfa_romeo/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/radius/1501/page/1/postcode/ba140ds?logcode=p
