Replacing 147 Aerial - Headlining Removal?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is an ICE or Bodywork question, but I want to replace the beesting aerial on my 3dr 147 for one that is DAB as well as AM/FM amplified. (Have got a DAB HU and don't like those windscreen stick on aerials that look crap and don't work!) Assuming the aerial lead takes the roof/A pillar route, what's the procedure for lowering/removing the headlining and A pillar trim/airbag?

I have done this before on a 1980s Golf 5Dr and it was relatively straightforward and could be done in stages - ie by unscrewing a bit of trim, lowering the notoriously fragile headlining, sliding the aerial cables along a bit, lifting the headling and putting the trim back, before moving on to repeat the process with the next section of trim/headlining. Is it possible to do something similar on the 147, or does the whole headlining have to drop or come out?

The roof liner is a single piece on the 147 and is held up using the sun visors, grab handles, A, B and C pillar trim which means fliping up the rear seat base to remove the kick plates in the doorways to unscrew and remove the lower B trim to unscrew and remove the upper B trim, the A trim is all firtree clips and the C and rear roof trim is screws and Firtrees, then the roof liner itself has some Firtrees, Also the screws above the interior lights and support in the center of the rear panel. Folding the seats forward will allow you to lower the roof liner down and twist it a bit to slide it out the boot. It takes about 30 mins to get it out when you know what your doing but for a first timer I would give it about 3 hours to remove it. and the aerial may run up either sides A pillar depending on which way the wind blew the day the car was built though most seem to run up the passengers side.

Thanks Smaky. Sounds like it's a weekend job when it's not chucking it down with snow/rain (I have no garage). For the A pillar trim removal, do I have to disconnect the battery or is it sufficient to remove the airbag fuses (assuming that the SRS airbag logos aren't just for show)?

May as well go the whole hog and run wiring for the tv tuner aerials and reverse cam, plus fit the bluetooth mic whilst I'm at it. Is it possible to route wires to the HU/glovebox area without taking the dash out? If not, how do you loosen or remove the dash (I have a Sele if that makes any difference)?

 Typical! :biglol:

The logos have a screw underneath them which holds on the pillar trim too. Disconnecting the battery isalways a good idea.

Hi Smaky,

Alfa 147 facelift headlining replacement?

Does the headlining from the earlier cars fit the later cars with the same fabric?

Also i noted that the roof is the same, so does the 4 door fit the 2 door?

Rear part of the headlining has a rip in it, badly sagged , how i bought the car.
