spark 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 Hello I am going to do an change soon & have found a place that rents 2 post lifts and rather than lay on the floor I was going to do it in comfort The thing is where is the best place to for the lift points The fronts i assume would be the small turrets just in from the sills but where is good on the rear? Thanks Mark

spark 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 thanks for the info looking at those pictures it looks like the lifting pads are crushing the lip that the tyre change scissor jack uses is there enough room inside of them to get the pads onto?
jhc 28 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 No. The rubber pads on the lift shouldn't crush the lip. If they look like they're going to you can get adapters for the lift. If its a place that rents then they should have them.
jhc 28 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 Our just put them where the yellow arrows are, iirc they are the factory jacking points.
Spyder84 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 Or just some lumps of wood either side of the lip like the std jack would sit?
Smaky 73 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 Sparky, those 2 pictures are prime examples of how NOT to jack up the car, especially exactly how they have the lift positioned, that has crushed the sills on that car. Correct method DEMONSTRATED below. Rear end first... Now the front...
spark 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 So in summary when lifting with a 2 post lift the front pads should be on the turrets to the rear of the front subframe and the rear pads on an area in line with the jacking point but inside of the seam so as not to crush it Is this correct? Smaky 73 Report post Posted February 29, 2012 Indeed, these points also have holes in so that should the lift be fitted with the correct peg pads then it would slip.
