The BMW thread

The trouble with the Z8 is its size and weight. Sports care are supposed to light and agile, where as that one weighs about the same as a 5 series.

Plus I am not taken with the styling myself. Looks like they have taken a Fiat Barchetta, and bred it with a Z3 and this is the offspring.

It must have the same density as depleted uranium, as they certainly aren't that big. Apparently they do handle like a dog though...

I like the styling. Fiat Barchetta + Z3 = much more than the sum of it's parts.

M1 or a Z1 for me.....NOT a 1 M......

or an 850csi.

I think the Z8 is one of the most gorgeous cars ever made, not just a stunning BMW, a stunning car in general

And lets face it, we dont buy Alfas for the way they drive.....

Z8 is a gorgeous car... sadly it doesnt go as well as it looks. Its very much a boardwalk cruiser, not a sports car. :(

I took the photo on the Marina in front of all the posh boats, which says it all really...

That's not a Marina, that's a BMW,

THIS is a Marina, quite stylish....

My Grandad had a marina the same as that, only it was Red.

Horrible car, it broke down on him twice before he wrote it off.

Just to get the image of a Morris Marina out of my head, I've found a picture of the first BMW I had anything to do with:

An early seventies 3.0S. Owned by my dad for a few years. Obviously the photo isn't the exact one.

I was six or seven at the time, so I can't comment on what it was like to drive ;) Apparently it was a disaster reliability wise. Fuel tank split three times.

Certainly pretty though..

My first experience with bmw was my dads 735i.

Identical to this one.

They fecking do go that well, i can testify... still a 400hbp V8 upfront :)

Unfortunatley, the actual cars as shit, horrid, horrid things to work on.

These things are my nemesis...... hours and hours of work put in to a couple of these horrid cars :nonono:

Nope, give me an e92 335i/335d that would do me :bgrin:

I can see its place and why people want it... it is absolutely gorgeous. But its a grand tourer, not a sports car, sadly. :( It should have been so much more.

I've had an E32 730i with manual box, was a good car, although a little underpowered. I destroyed it after a very long week at work by having a momentary snooze at the wheel... OH SHIT, CORNER...!!! Hit a bank, then a wooden power pole appeared front and centre. Pole snapped off at bonnet height. Engine left an imprint on the firewall. Car totalled... I got a graze on my cheek from the 'A' pillar, and a fractured rib from the door grab. Went off the road at 60mph, and it was an '89, so no airbags. Strong car...!

Replaced it with an E32 740, still the fastest car I've owned @ 245kph and it would do that in 4th or 5th. Wish it wasn't speed limited... Too many things wrong with it though, basically worn out suspension, transmission and brakes, radiator leaking, thermostat housing same, and hood lining sagging. Plus cracked screen... Too expensive to fix, parts aren't cheap here, and old 7's are worth peanuts.

I'd own another though... Would love an E34 M5... ;)

Or the engine out of the 740 in an E30...

1989 730i, manual 5 speed, limited slip, cruise control.

Seeing as we're doing the "my first Bimmer" thing, here's mine:

Jan2157.jpg

My BMW 525i SE (E34) was identical to the car above (that one's not mine).

And it was fitted with the sweet-as-a-nut M50B25 24v 2.5 litre engine, pushing out 192bhp (again, picture not of mine, but you get the idea).
