SW JTDs are out of my price range.

If the price range is £500-£1,000, and the car must be a DERV, then it's got to be French. ;)

My recommendation would be a Peugeot 306 HDi (facelift model, GTi-6 alloys, tasteful shade of metallic paint). A decent steer, and still nice-looking, even today.

Job's a good'un.

I have to agree... A late '90s A4 Avant 1.9 TDi would be bang-tidy for just under a bag of sand.

Want me to find another? :D

Who did you get that for? No-one on here obviously, no self respecting alfa driver would switch over to an Audi diesel estate...would they? :$

Him indoors has an A4 estate. (as its bigger than SW which i almost convinced him to buy) Beautiful, grunty, V6 and quattro. What more could you want

About this time last year I bought a 51 plate 156 2.4 SW for £900, so not out of budget and a great car.

I've driven an A4 S-Line Diesel and it was bloody awful, uncomfortable, uninvolved and common as muck, but then I find all the VAG cars I've driven to be like that.
