  1. When the Selespeed works properly it's awesome. Really comes into it's own on twisty mountain roads. I didn't like it much at first but for really fast driving it makes sense, now i reckon it's great. When working really hard the shifts are just beautiful. Works best when your really fanging it!
  2. I need to have a look at the wheel bearings as there is a noise somewhere. The 156 and 147 bearings are listed as being different , most 147 have the same front bearings. They all appear the same mounting casing but outer and inner bearing dimensions change . Some sites list them as being the same? I have a wreck 156 which was good , are the bearings compatible , same year, same engine/box? Do they change the hubs? *Or is the bearing removable from the hub or outer race integral with the casing? Any ideas?

  5. Selespeed, strange gear selection when cold? Strange when the car is cold the gear indicator flashes,indicates the wrong gear i think, sometimes blank for a second. Once warm it works OK. Is this the transmission ECU on the way out? I have another one from a working car , where is it located and is it a plug and play job? Thanks guys.
  6. Smaky, thanks. it is a fair sort of noise and i guess you can hear it from outside of the car. Otherwise it is all great.
  7. It's a little metalic, almost sounds like a pressure plate /clutch fork problem. A bit like a blow-off valve rattle. * What causes the noise that i am hearing ? If the clutch rod is out, meaning freeplay will this cause it? I am not greatly worried and used to it , car works fine , no issues .
  8. I have a slight metalic clunk, very brief, on gear changes , Not all gear changes . Gearbox shifts properly up and down, just this noise like a solid click as it goes in gear. Does it if you change gears with the engine not running. No bearing noises or poor syncro behavior. Any ideas?
  9. No, it was the big wiring connector on the side of the battery , below the air-flow.
  10. Loose/poor connection by the battery, big connector. Might help someone in the future. Many thanks for those who posted.
  11. Guys, fixing a few things today. Kids furniture and when it cools down a few sheep to shear. I got into the wiring and had a fiddle with the main seles plug by the battery and it works now! Got gears! Fantastic! Is this common? The car was run without an inner guard for some time and the elecs got splashed. When i got the car i got one . Does the 156 gravel tray fit the 147? Thanks for the replies!
  12. I havn't got alfadiag yet . Where should the nut be locked on the rod , can it be set roughly by sight?
  13. My thought was to take the box as well as the U-pull-it wreckers here charge $160 for a complete box , which is not much money. They are good guys! Are internal selector issues common? The box was good before just a clunk as it shifted gears , not always there .
  14. Selects neutral and tries to select forward. Pump works when you open the door . Little click when you try to select 1st ,forwrd .
  15. Classic, many thanks. how long to get it out and if i get the box as well how much longer? Do both driveshafts bolt up to flanges on the gearbox or do they pull out? Anything special i need to get the box out?
  16. I have a dead selespeed , no forward gears. Pump is good , gearbox works in reverse , no forward . If i drive 600klms to Melbourne i can go to one of those U-pull-it wreckers and get another box or actuator for little money. What tools do i need to get the Actuator off? How long does it take and how long to get another box out ? Will the 156 Selespeed fit?
  17. Selespeed won't select forward gears. Does reverse no problem but no click when you select forward? Pump works when you open the door. Is this a solenoid failed? How many solenoids for forward ? Or an actuator failure Anyone been down this path.
