156: Rear Strut Brace ?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am thinking of getting a rear strut brace for my GTA.

The car is frequently used on a track, so I would like to counterpoint the understeer that the upper front strut brace gives.

If that makes sense.

Does a rear upper strut brace help much do you think ?

Again, another waste of money. if you are serious about stiffening the shell then the ONLY way to do it is to seem weld the chassis properlyas we do on all works cars.

I have a rear and front strut brace. Can't say I notice a massive difference but looks nice and it all helps. :)

STRUT BRACES ON THESE CARS ARE JUST A GIMMICK, the shocks are mounted on the bulkheads where there is no flex anyway and all you end up doing is raising the centre of gravity, effectively making the car more unstable.

Everything flexes mate. ;) and anyway aren't the struts mounted to the strut turrets which are then mounted to the bulkhead like most other cars

Depending on the make of car will depend on how far the turrets are from the bulkhead. Car like mk1 escorts benefit from strut braces because the towers are about a foot from the bulkhead but the modern alfas have them right on the bulkheads and this makes braces obsolete. If you want to stiffen it up the look to the strengthening plates as fitted to Gtv v6, GT 1.9 and 3.2 and 147/156 v6s, they are far more effective at reducing torsional loading than braces on these vehicles.
