Gibot123 16 Report post Posted August 25, 2013 So Knockhill what a great track normally full of all sorts should be interesting . Would love to have the opportunity to drive this on a track day . Watch for the airborne cars should be a good watch.
Gibot123 16 Report post Posted August 25, 2013 I. Have a vested interest in the BTCC as the 147 I have I collected from one of the drivers who was selling on behalf of a customer of theirs. Keep your eyes open for Dan Welsh in the Proton and team mate Dave Nye in the focus . Poor Dan seems to keep getting taken out he's due a good finish . LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted August 25, 2013 I recorded today's races so haven't watched it yet. Its the only racing i really like watching as its not very predictable unlike some racing. I want to try & get to 1 of the races as i have never been before. The Alfa specialist i use also help out with 1 of the touring car teams too & after chatting to them about stuff its surprising how much work goes into the cars & how much it costs
Gibot123 16 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) Yes had a look at the proton I mentioned and there really isn't much of it left the whole of the front is space frame not an inner wing to be seen ! The rest is mainly roll cage . I was really surprised how small and relatively uncomplicated the engine looked too. The people I met were Welch Motorsport and its a really small set up and they said as soon as they have money it's gone straight back into the car . Would love to have ago though. LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 I haven't been lucky enough to see an actual touring car but i have been to 1 of the brscc Alfa championship races & seen the Green diesel GT quite a bit. That is a great looking car & a lot of work goes in to that too & it pays off as Darrelle is doing really well. They have a Punto too & frasier is doing well with that The team is team hard who fred & chris help out with so 1 of the newer teams, i love tom onslow-coles passat & think it looks great as a touring car the fords were doing pretty well last race too & considering they were putting the engine back in on smiths car when the others were already on the grid he done really well to get the finish that he did! Gibot123 16 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 Yes the passat does look good in that form as does the Toyota both cars that you would normally call bland. I did watch today so won't say anymore till you've had chance to watch maybe tomorrow
LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 thanks, hopefully i will get to watch it over the next couple of days the proton looks pretty good too, i usually hate them but as a race car it kind of works
LJ_GQV 115 Report post Posted August 27, 2013 Managed to watch it all today Knockhill looks a great track the way the cars go over the chicane on 2 wheels & what looks to be right on the verge of tipping over is amazing. Bit of a shame for Paul O'neill in the 1st race & what happened with his team mate in qualifying I thought the Mini championship looks like really good racing too & it would be good if they were included every race weekend Impressive ending to shedden's civic too. Heard it was engine failure but it definately went with a bang, thats the 2nd time i've seen his car on fire Team Hard had a busy weekend by the looks of with the damage to a few of their cars & im surprised paul o'neill got another race out of the insignia. Heard him say £30k damage to the engine & £20k in bodywork so an expensive return to the championship if that was right Can't wait until Rockingham, if i can afford it i might try & get there to watch it
Gibot123 16 Report post Posted August 27, 2013 Yes it was an expensive re start to his touring car racing . The team did an amazing job to get him back out for the last race. They certainly had a busy weekend. Poor Dan welch had a bit of a mixed weekend too with a none finish (alternator) I think and a highest finish so far in 7th. Mind you think some of that was down to the others that dropped out. Still it all counts. I really like Knockhill it really evens things up a bit and really pushes the cars to the max. Might be a good idea for a get together at some point as it would make a great day out and not normally to pricey . Maybe worth a thought for the future or possibly next year so that we could choose a track central to as many as are interested. As for the minis it would be good to see a bit more of them, I think it's because of the clio's they normally get the spotlight . Good close racing through all the groups though . I would like to go too at some point . Have start putting a bit in my piggy bank .
