#128504 Selespeed Woes: What Broke First?

Posted Cato on 23 November 2013 - 03:42 PM

Hello everyone.

About a month ago my Selespeed clutch spring plate went bust and I've place an OEM Valeo kit.

Long story short, about 300 miles later I started to feel some juddering in 1st and reverse gears, connected to MES and saw everything ok except from clutch rod from 28 to 27.3mm. Set it up and drove for another 300 miles until something inside broke.

When we got the gearbox out we've seen the release bearing was split. Today at a closer look (i.e. looking at things again, and againg, and again) I also saw that part of the clutch seal was inside the release bearing plastic - something that made me wonder at first, but didn't make much case of it until this morning, realising the clutch seal was also broke.

My question is what part failed, the clutch seal or the release bearing?

1. The front bearing is ok. The gear shaft is rock solid. Smooth rotation, no noises or excentric movement.
Posted Image

2. The state of the release bearing and clutch seal. The scratches on top of the seal's cilindrical part are reflected on the gear shaft which will need to be smoothed. The plate securing the bearing to the plastic just disintegrated.

3. Another look at the clutch seal.

4. The spring plate. The image was taken off center. The disc is well centered and secure.

A few positive comments from car club/forum members and enthusiasts who have asked us to quote recently:

"Spoke to CK and they wiped the floor and gave me a quote of £280 even with all the mods declared. I know who I will be choosing next year." Carlsberg

"Just changed my Insurance to CK as they beat my renewal price by £300 rang up my insurance to cancel they said oh lets see if we can beat it and came back with a higher quote than the renewal." ardente

"Considering where I live and parking on the street, declared mods, my insurance with CK, for the first time, was £100 cheaper than my previous year and £175 less than the renewal for non-modded would have been." Shel

"I’m now insured with CKI. Dealing with my quote and subsequent questions was a lady called Kathy, very polite, very helpful. The quote I received was 15% less that my renewal quote from HD on MP215 with no other mods. Over the past weeks I’ve added to my policy a cat-back exhaust, Eibach Springs, Induction hose, Mountune Quik Shifter, Gloss Plastics all at no extra cost, no admin fees etc. I could not be happier with the service received. Thanks Chris Knott Insurance." Darran

PS. Genuine quote requests only please - we reserve the right to request a copy of your existing insurance renewal to confirm eligibility within the time frame of the competition.

#131816 Headlights Polished

Posted Angelom on 24 March 2014 - 09:53 PM

Did this a while back. Clear coats on the headlights were starting to peel and lights seemed to be turning yellowish. Got some fine sandpaper ( cant remember the grids), water sandpaper, some rubbing compound. Started by sanding off all clear coat, then water sandpapered and then polished with the compound and then with some leftover liquid polish I had in the garage. I think it came out great for real cheap. Here's a before and after pic of driverside light I've done. Unfortunately I did not take more pics of the whole process. Posted ImagePosted Image

#126277 Merc Cla220 Amg Sport

Posted StescoG66 on 03 October 2013 - 06:39 AM

Mrs has one just now on trial for her next co car - CLA220 AMG Sport. Its utterly crap. £32,000!!! Is someone havin' a fuckin' laugh!!!!!

Styling is frankly a mess, noisy, rough, claustrophobic, transmission hunts all the time, jerky. Interior plastics are like something from a 1980 Amstrad tower system - particularly the dash vents - and that screen looks as though it has been nailed on by a spastic. Not even that quick. Utter pish . . . .

BTW I won't complain about the plastics in the Giulietta ever again after sitting in this turd!! And the more cars we try, the more I realise just how good her current Accord is.

#124264 The Formula One thread

Posted K9d on 11 September 2013 - 04:41 PM

I feel for Massa, he has never really been the same after his accident, there were odd flashes of his old self, couple that with Alonso as a team mate and his days were always numbered.
I hope he gets a drive for next year.
